That moment when your spectacular one night stand turns out to be your sexy, older new boss. FML.

Brantley Phipps doesn’t want a boyfriend. In his line of work, relationships are impossible. All he wants is one night of fun before he starts his 10-week rotation as assistant hotel director on a cruise ship.

He scores the jackpot with a hot older guy who hits all his yes, please buttons and who wants the same thing as him. Their chemistry is explosive, hot damn. Talk about a night to remember. That should last him a while....

Until he discovers that his one-night stand is none other than the legendary Captain Silver Fox aka his new boss. Oops.

Still, it shouldn’t be an issue because Brantley doesn’t do coworkers and Fox is known for being strict as hell about not dating employees. That should make things easy, if not for that pesky attraction that keeps flaring up whenever they're in the same room. Or on the same ship. What the hell do they have to do to get rid of that?

It's gonna be a long three months....

Captain Silver Fox is a stand-alone MM romance with an age gap, yummy steamy scenes, a Caribbean setting on a cruise ship, and a one-night stand that turns into an embarrassing case of falling for the boss. This book was previously published as Shipping the Captain, but the content is unchanged.

The story was very interesting. I kept worrying they'd get caught sneaking around the workplace and it was sort of exhilarating. The HEA was phenomenal.

Loved it

I enjoyed the romance between Fox and Brantley. However one of the narrators was not very good. His chapters were just bad voice acting.

good romance bad narrator

I've read this author before. I listened to the audio book. This was a modern day story about Brantley a young assistant hotel director and a cruise ship captain Captain Silver Fox. They met before sailing at a night club and didn't know they were on the same ship. Great dual narration. There is an age gap with Fox being older.

Great modern MM Romance story on a Cruise Ship

Captain Silver Fox is a quick, entertaining read that just doesn’t end as strongly as it starts off. I like both Fox and Brantley. Their personalities are distinct and well-matched, and Phoenix does a great job selling their explosive chemistry and inexplicable connection. I appreciate them not instantly giving in to their attraction when they meet again on the ship, except for how that lasts for like a week. They don’t make it past the first cruise before giving in, and with all the repetition of inner angst it just felt like a time jump would have made the release of the tension and restraint feel earned.

There’s also such a focus on a pair of passengers and the beauty of their love that I wondered if they are beloved characters from another series, which became distracting. Their purpose in the story is to get the MCs to consider if a loving partnership is possible, but then the couple just keep popping up for more ‘their love is so pure and almost holy’ comments.

The last third of the book feels rushed and runs out of steam. Circumstances come up that make them admit their love and everything become really fluffy and hearts and flowers for a swift wrap-up. Though the pacing and focus is a bit uneven, Phoenix does sell Brantley and Fox’s connection as well as their distress and conflicting desires for one another and the careers they love. The gay cruise setting is fun, and Fox and Brantley’s HEA is heartwarming.

an entertaining enough forbidden, age gap tale

I enjoyed this love story with a good balance of sweet and heat. I like the narrators pretty well, but I didn’t hear the slight Dutch accent the author attributed to the Dutch captain. I would have preferred to hear it in duet narration so that the captain‘s voice was the same throughout, and I would’ve preferred either a native Dutch voice actor or one who could do the accent and manner of speaking. I also didn’t like the fact that the narrator(s) used a higher voice when speaking for the younger character. He wasn’t that much younger, and he wasn’t a twink or daddy’s boy, so it didn’t fit. Speaking of daddy‘s boy, I did like the minor characters – a sweet side love story.

Cute low-angst (but enough angst) love story! Narration does not fit Dutch character’s slight accent.
