Brilliant!

A beautifully written, deep dive into one of the most iconic figures in Celtic paganism.

excellent book

ait wasn't what I expected, and yet was pleased at the information on the history of the bards and other Welsh information. I liked the information on Cerridwen and very pleased with info on the Awen and related material. I bought the book so I could see what the words were that were being said. I'll probably listen and look along with some sections again.

Lots of good information

Fair disclosure I met the author in Ohio in 2019 while camping. I learned about him and through him about druids which he made their teachings attainable for everyone unlike local groups which buried it in mysticism. I must say in person the author is a good person who can be the life of a party and the leader of all rituals. He mixes seriousness with humor/playfulness during rituals which came through in this book. When we crossed paths again in 2025 I bought this book and ‘The Book of Druidry’. As I listened to the book I followed along with the PDF which is the same one the publisher gives away with this book on their site. I enjoyed the rituals though some of them will have to wait for the proper season to perform them. The author makes this fun and playful while being serious. Though I can’t sing like him and I would love to see Kristoffer, Cerri and Damh the Bard create an album singing old tales/ritual songs.

I’m someone who likes to learn about history and like authors who give their references along with honesty. This author gives us their references and everything from both a historical view alongside a personal one. The author tells us about their experience while learning about Cerridwen. I can relate to the part about talking with trees. There is a lot of information presented here to help us understand the history of Cerridwen which gives the reader a solid foundation to build on. The lessons help us build on this foundation helping us reach a deeper understanding. The history of the bard was great to hear about and learn since I was considering playing a bard in a popular RPG. I could keep going but it would take away from your experience. Well Informed and Inspirational

This book is at once well researched and scholarly, while also being down to earth and practical. While I am not a devotee of Cerridwen, I do honour her and I loved the background and discussion this book provided.

As a novice Druid, I found this book to be very helpful and inspirational on my journey of connecting with Celtic/Druid lore and of course, specifically Cerridwen in this instance. Hughes masterfully blends verifiable history with his own rich personal experience, and even a bit of lightheartedness and humor to create a strong model upon which you can take as inspiration to begin forming your own new practice or add to an existing practice.
