Divorced, empty-nested, and staring fifty in the eye is every bit as crappy as it sounds. Luckily, life is about to be shaken, not stirred.

When Jules Cavanaugh's husband dumps her for his annoyingly perky, midlife crisis, her empty nest suddenly feels like a not-so-gilded cage. Desperate to put it all behind her, she packs her bags, and heads to the bar in Coastal Florida that she'd inherited from her father, sight unseen, to start over.

Once she gets there, all is sunshine and fruity cocktails, until she finds an odd, old book in a hidden safe, and a cryptic letter from her father, stashed in a secret safety deposit box. At first, she writes it off to his eccentricity - that is, until she accidentally summons a storm when her ex pushes her one step too far.

Before Jules can master the new magic coursing through her veins, or come to terms with her intense attraction for the hot, mysterious bartender, she uncovers a corrupt plot to hijack power she doesn't yet understand.

Though she may be a few hot flashes past her prime ass-kicking years, she's about to hand out a hard lesson in underestimating the power of experience.

This is book one in the paranormal women's fiction series, A Shot of Midlife Magic. If you like strong female characters, smartass gargoyles, and hot shifters who know how to treat a woman, then this is the book for you!

Have you ever read a book and wondered where the title came from because you don’t get the connection between the title and the contents? That is how I felt about this book. There is a disconnect between the title and what in the actual book.. The story does take place in a bar and there are actually witches in it but the storyline really just evolves around one witch for the most part. It doesn’t mean that the story is terrible but it is sort of the typical midlife woman is left by husband for younger woman and discovers this whole new world that has been hidden from her all of her life up to that point.
The narrator isn’t the worst I’ve ever heard but there’s a weird cadence/ inflection that I think is suppose to be a southern accent. The sound of her voice isn’t horrible, it’s just slightly annoying and her overall performance is decent.
