First published in 1912, Daddy-Long-Legs is an epistolary novel that follows orphan Jerusha "Judy" Abbott through her college years through a series of letters written to her anonymous benefactor, whom she nicknames "Daddy-Long-Legs." As Judy learns to navigate the complex world of studies, social life, and romance, her letters convey her growth and address the increasingly complex questions that preoccupy her. A classic coming-of-age story featuring a clever, engaging, and altogether realistic heroine, Daddy-Long-Legs has been a beloved tale since its publication and continues to delight its audiences.

I’m so glad I gave this a listen. I didn’t even know this classic existed before I read a review on another book, and this title was mentioned. (I read a Pride and Prejudice variation called “Dear Nameless Stranger”, which is based on both P&P and DLL).

The plot line is original and interesting. There was little angst, and i enjoyed how the main character, a young woman, held her ground with her benefactor, a man, the times it was necessary. This showed strength of character.

I loved the hea.

A classic

This is a cute little book. Julia Whelan is the best narrator, so no matter the content, I choose books she narrates. The story is sweet - and I most enjoyed the expansive vocabulary. Really. It inspires me to read more of the classics as the protagonist did.

Cute. Good vocabulary words. Great narration.

My only complaint about this book is that it wasn't 5 times longer! Beautiful performance, the narrator added such character to the story, and I now feel like a good friend of Judy's. Such a "deep sigh" book.

Fantastic!

I remember reading this about 40 years ago and was thrilled to find it in Audibles.

This story is mainly letters. An orphan girl is given a scholarship to attend college. The only requirement is that she write to Mr. John Smith once a month so he can judge her learning.

It is a marvelous story that is uplifting to hear as this young hard working young lady learns and discovers a world that would never been available to her if things had gone differently.

There is a smidgen of romance, but nothing overt.

It is important to note the story takes place in the early 1900's, Women were not allowed to vote.

Very Happy Story
