Two girls, bound by magic, must work together to stop an oncoming war, while grappling with unresolved feelings and terrible secrets in Daughter of the Cursed Kingdom, the thrilling conclusion to Jasmine Skye's romantasy duology.

“If I ask you to walk into danger with me, Rosamund Holt, will you do it?”

Born a bone witch, with the power to raise the dead, Shaw has spent her life preparing to take her place as Death's Heir, so she can lead her people to victory in an unavoidable, prophesied war. But then she met Rosy, sweet, stubborn Rosy, the most powerful bone familiar she's ever known, and the only person Shaw has never been able to predict. Rosy, who doesn’t believe in the prophesied war that has consumed Shaw’s entire life.

“I won't be their weapon, but I will be yours.”

Shaw has won Rosy's loyalty, but Rosy has made it very clear she's not willing to share her heart, a fact that Shaw is determined to respect... no matter how much it hurts. But now, as tensions with Vinland rise and secrets about the Witch King’s motivations are revealed, Shaw needs Rosy and her entourage more than ever. Will Shaw become the conquering warlord she was prophesized to be, or will she be strong enough to find a new path forward?

Critic reviews

Daughter of the Cursed Kingdom:

"Filled with fantastic world building, the story has plenty of intriguing twists, turns, and triumphs." —Booklist

“Without abandoning the romantic core of the first book, this conclusion dives into military strategy, political lore, and the world’s hierarchies. The analogies to contemporary politics and generational tensions are subtle yet clear, and there’s a focus on peace, inclusivity, and responsibility over power.” –Kirkus

“An emotionally wrenching tale of two girls on the edge of a devastating war. Jasmine Skye weaves together thrilling intrigue, high-stakes action, and fierce sapphic love. A riveting sequel full of yearning and heart!” —Leslie Vedder, bestselling author of The Bone Spindle trilogy

Daughter of the Bone Forest:

A Chicago Public Library Best Book of the Year

"This is a rich, queernormative fantasy... Give it to teens who love high fantasy and get incredibly invested in series books. It's not to be missed." —Booklist, starred review

“Peopled with queer characters representing the breadth of the gender spectrum, this epic hero’s journey is at turns touchingly romantic and graphically violent… A robustly imagined, intrinsically queer, and romantic high-fantasy epic.” —Kirkus

"Daughter of the Bone Forest seamlessly pulls you into a lush and enchanting world, complete with a magical school so immersive that Hogwarts pales in comparison. An exquisitely crafted tale of tender romance, family loyalty, and the crushing inevitability of adulthood—this book sinks its teeth into you and doesn’t let go." - Kylie Lee Baker, author of The Keeper of Night

I did enjoy listening to this book and the narrator is very good. But, I felt like there were not many, if any, new ideas added to the story. Again, it is entertaining nevertheless.

Good but similar to first book
