Kicked out of the SAS, Harry Bauer is sent home and told to be like everyone else...but he's not like everyone else...

What do you do when the only skill you ever learned was how to kill, when you’re among the best of the best, but they tell you you can’t do that anymore? What do you do when they send you home from Afghanistan and tell you to get a job, like everybody else?

But you’re not like everybody else.

After eight years as a trooper in the SAS, fighting the secret, untold wars in the deserts and the jungles of the world, Harry Bauer has been kicked out for attempting to assassinate Mohammed Ben Amini, the Butcher of Al-Landy. He’s been sent home, to New York, where he was raised an orphan ‘til he was old enough to split and join the special forces.

Now he’s back, and unemployed; until Russian Mafia boss Peter Rusanov offers him a job wiping out the Albanian Mafia. It’s a job he figures could make him rich, until Colonel Jane Harris shows up, takes him for a ride to Pleasantville, and tells him about Cobra…

Then all hell breaks loose.

Jack Reacher meets Matt Helm (not the Dean Martin parody)! It was a fun listen that made a road trip pass quickly. We hope the author will also revive his Dead Cold Mystery series.

This was a fun and fairly quick introduction into a new series. We meet Harry Bauer as he is forced to resign from the British SAS after 8 years of service. He returns to his hometown of New York after being away for years - having left the U.S. when he was 18 years old.

Finding a job after his resignation is not easy and he finally accepts a position as a door man/bouncer for a Russian mobster's nightclub. That becomes a slippery slope, and the job begins to require more and more from him, none of it legal.

There is a ton of action - and I do mean a ton _ but the thing is, you really need to suspend your level of believability for most of it. Not that it isn't fun to read, because it is - it is just one man taking on dozens of bad guys and walking away without a scratch seems to happen to Harry quite regularly.

The other thing that made this fun for me was that it was narrated by Ray Porter. This was a surprise to me. I didn't even know that he was the narrator until I hit the play button and heard his voice. Mr. Porter always makes everything better.

A plausible story line with great action. Loved the interchange and the numerous covert groups.

Had to leave a review because it has been awhile since I listened to a book that kept my attention. Fast paced and would like to say fun storyline but with all the killing can I say that? You won’t be sorry to get this book.

Fast story
