A “perfectly executed suspense tale very much in the mode of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca” (The Washington Post) from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of In a Dark, Dark Wood, The Woman in Cabin 10, The Lying Game, and The Turn of the Key.

On a day that begins like any other, Hal receives a mysterious letter bequeathing her a substantial inheritance. She realizes very quickly that the letter was sent to the wrong person—but also that the cold-reading skills she’s honed as a tarot card reader might help her claim the money.

Soon, Hal finds herself at the funeral of the deceased…where it dawns on her that there is something very, very wrong about this strange situation and the inheritance at the center of it.

Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware’s signature suspenseful style, this is a “captivating and eerie page-turner” (The Wall Street Journal) from the Agatha Christie of our time.

I enjoyed the story and really liked the narration. I thought the characters were OK for the most part but not particularly likeable except for the main character which I liked. I suppose that is because we never knew what the other characters thought or what their motivations were. We saw everything from the main characters perspective and she didn't really know the others at all.
But overall an enjoyable story.

Good Story

Being young and alone in the world is scary, so I think most people can identify with the main character. I didn't see the twists and turns coming until near the last, and even then, I didn't see some of the twists coming!

A Story with a Twist

I am definitely a fan of Ruth Ware, and this twisty book with it's well developed characters is no exception. As a matter of fact, I'd say this one is my favorite of her books. But Imogen Church is a narrator in a league of her own! She makes listening to this story instead of reading it such a wonderful choice, with each character being so distinct and full of personality . I highly recommend this book all the way around

I love Ruth Ware and this book was no exception. Imogen Church is wonderful as the narrator. She really makes you feel the emotion that the author is trying to convey. I loved this story. It had twists that I wasn't expecting and that is always a plus for a book. I would highly recommend this download!
