Years of struggle have left Zecia weakened in their war against the Kan'Tanu Cult.

Negotiating for peace is not an option when the System is in control. It can only be purchased through blood and steel. No one is spared from the winds of war.

Zac and his elite armies have been forced to the frontlines just as opportunity strikes. An ancient war fortress has risen from the dimensional depths.

Built by the Limitless Empire, it holds power and secrets far beyond what's seen on the desolate frontiers. Seizing it could be the key to changing the winds of war. Zac finds himself in the heart of the struggle.

No matter what, he won't let it fall into the Kan'Tanu's hands.

i love the series, but I found myself zoning out on this one. Lots of info that might tie in later, but seemed tertiary. Hopefully 15 picks up.

LitRPG is about balancing the technical progress and the story progress. Different authors weigh those differently with this series being far more technical than most. I don't mind that per se, but this book leans into that even more than previously, to the point where the story is not even secondary. The shift from the end of the ship portion of the book into the 2nd half felt REALLY artificial and jolting, to the point where I had to go back and re-listen again to see if I missed a whole set of chapters. I didn't, it was just bad writing.

I still finished and I MIGHT get the next book, but if the author continues down this path I might just chalk this up to the author and I having different ideas of what a good LitRPG storyline looks like. I do enjoy the characters (although character development is lacking IMO) and the story itself and worldbuilding are top notch, but the last 2 books have had so little in that regard that its becoming a bit of a slog.

As for the narration, it is well done as always. JF Brink does a great job making the dry portions of the book enjoyable(ish)

Stilted and stale

Great plot progression. felt like a lot of the holes were filled in.
just wish they would have incorporate the heist into this one so the seal bearer arc could have started with book 15.

14 in and I'm still wanting more....
