Lew Fonseca is a man who does things for people. He makes small problems go away and tries to keep the larger ones from landing his clients in jail. He finds deadbeats, errant spouses, and generally keeps the populace of Sarasota on the up-and-up.

New Lew is faced with one case that will try his patience…and another that may break his heart.

The first involves an elderly woman who swears she's witnessed a murder in her old-age home despite the fact that everyone she tells her story to–her family, the hospital staff, and finally the cops–all tell her that it just couldn't have happened.

The other has Lew trying to find out the identity of a hit-and-run driver who killed a fourteen-year-old boy. This task dredges up old memories and a lot of pain, for Lew fled Chicago years ago, after a drunk driver killed his beloved wife.

As Lew begins to dig deeper into both cases, he finds that they are tied together in ways he can't hope to untangle.

Definitely worth the listen....

I'm a huge fan of Stuart Kaminsky and his Lew Fonesca character, as well as being a member of the crowd of listeners who buy virtually everything Scott Brick reads. This book won't disappoint you, though at times I was a little irritated with the overuse of "he said". However, with Scott Brick reading it, I had no problem getting by that and enjoying a very well written mystery. I found myself pulling for Lew Fonesca's baby steps back into the real world and look forward to many more similar novels. My true rating would have been 4.5 had I been given that option.

I guess Lou Fanesca is my hero. I love the local color, the characters, the story line. I love no surfeit of profanity. Keep them coming please

reliable Stuart Kaminsky

Kaminsky books are always good, solid entertainment. His characters , be they Russian Policemen or poor , sad Lew Fonesca, are always very real.

3rd time around reading this series!

Lew is a great guy that we can all relate to at one point or another in our lives. The author’s development of the characters are first class along with the Florida details allows me to escape for just a little while from the current state of affairs in the US, Ukraine, and Gaza. Thank you for sharing your work.
