“Fresh, confident, intelligent and amusing. Grab a cold drink, put your feet up, and enjoy yourself.”— Sue Grafton

The first entry in a thoroughly original and witty series that sets Atlanta house cleaner cum sleuth Callahan Garrity on the trail of a client’s missing au pair, now published under the name Mary Kay Andrews for the first time.

Callahan Garrity is the owner of House Mouse, a cleaning service that tidies up after Atlanta's elite. She's also a former cop and a part-time sleuth, and she and her coterie of devoted helpers can ransack a house for clues faster than it takes a fingerprint to set.

Callahan is on the job when her client announces that her pretty, nineteen-year-old Mormon nanny has disappeared—along with jewelry, silver, and some sensitive real-estate documents.

Soon Callahan and her crew of eccentric cleaners are involved in a job messier than any they've ever encountered. Illicit love triangles, crooked business deals, long-distance scams— it's going to require some industrial-strength sleuthing on Callahan's part to solve this one.

It took a little time to adjust to southern speech. Once I got the rhythm, I really enjoyed listening. The characters were terrific, each in their own way.

The book was not of my usual reading yet it was good.

Laughs/Suspense - Kept me reading!

As a Mormon from Atlanta I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. The book is definitely fiction. In my 33 years living in Atlanta I’ve never hear the N word. The narrator sounds like she is from the Midwest pronouncing the L in “DeKalb” and “kudzu” like the Japanese. Seriously, get your facts straight.

Portrayed Mormons in a ridiculous and inaccurate manner

The “GD” word is used too much in many books but then I make it to chapter 15 and the descriptive term used for a black person is too much! I am not black and live in the south and I could not listen to that. Did not finish and I normally live Mary Kay Andrew books🥺

Too much bad language

I liked the story and the characters. There’s was some oddities in the writing. Some moments that felt telling rather than showing. I got attached to the characters. I’ll probably read more of the series. Good brain candy pallet cleanser after more intense reads. The voices the narrator used for the characters in the Audible version were a bit distracting. #cozymystery #tagsgiving #sweepstakes
