Butch Karp has never shied away from a difficult case, and when Croatian terrorists hijack a plane and kill an NYPD bomb squad cop in a bomb blast, he’s eager to prosecute the high-profile killers. But Karp’s aggression puts him at risk when his investigations uncover messy government secrets. Certain elements of the FBI and CIA don't want the trial to go forward, and are willing to go to extremes to sabotage Karp’s case. Mired in local bureaucracy and international intrigue, only Karp’s dogged determination - along with the help of his crime-fighting partner and girlfriend, Marlene Ciampi - can once again deliver justice.

Though published in nineteen eighty nine, other than no cell phones, this could have been published yesterday. There’s even some laugh out loud humor.

This is great escapist writing. It isn't literature. It isn't a documentary (at least, I hope not). People do things and get away with things that would never match a real life story.

However, there are characters, some of whom are real "Characters!". There are some funny scenes, and some sad ones. There's humor, backstabbing, manipulation and loyalty. There's love, friendship and family.

Just dive in and enjoy some time away from reality. Have a little fun. Don't overanalyze the plot (there are a few weaknesses, but no glaring holes).

I'm off to read the next one now.

Traber Burns was very good with the delivery of the story

Enjoyable Series

Usually enjoy the butch Karp series but this one was very long, obvious, and the interaction between Butch and Arlene was silly. There was no real connection expressed by the dialogue or tone. Sorry.

Not so much

The narrator has the characters down pat! Al though a lot of background and information, it is good and so worth a listen! Reading wouldn’t be as much fun!

I laughed to tears!

It's old but timeless politcs. A good story performed. Believable characters. It's an entertaining story that is part detective and part DA and Court room drama.

Enjoyed it very much
