Hurt people hurt people.

Say there was a novel in which Holden Caulfield was an alcoholic and Lolita was a photographer's assistant, and somehow they met in Bright Lights, Big City. He's blinded by love. She by ambition.

Diary of an Oxygen Thief is an honest, hilarious, and heartrending novel but, above all, a very realistic account of what we do to each other and what we allow to have done to us.

If you go into this expecting a great guy going through a rough patch who’ll most likely have a redemption arc… I advise you stop hoping before diving. Nothing in this is meant for the reader to condone and that’s what makes this low key amazing.

I hated the main character—truly, deeply—but I couldn’t stop reading. Diary of an Oxygen Thief is brutally honest, raw, and unapologetically toxic in a way that makes you cringe and nod at the same time. The narrator is selfish, manipulative, and emotionally damaged… yet somehow manages to hold up a painfully accurate mirror to parts of human insecurity and desire. The writing is minimal but impactful. It’s not a feel-good book, but it is real. Uncomfortably real.
