The only problem is, having lost too many of their fellow witches to the epidemic, the coven’s protective powers have been seriously damaged.

Unaware of all the mystical shenanigans going on, Joe starts to fall for the super-cute bisexual ferryman who just happens to have webbed feet and an unusual ability to hold his breath underwater. But Joe’s longing to find love is tripped up by his own troublesome past as well as the lure of a mysterious hunk he keeps seeing around the island—a man Howie and Lenny warn may be a harbinger of impending doom.

Caught me off guard, it was that good

This book was chosen by the book club that I’m a part of. I probably wouldn’t have read it on my own. But boy am I glad that I did. It was seriously so good! Such an amazing story, great character development. It gives a wonderful glimpse into the LGBTQ+ community… and the message is that love is the ultimate truth. I fell in love with the characters, and it spoke to me on a deeper level and resonated with some difficult stuff that I’m going through in my own life. I loved the magical realism aspect of it too. Just a warning that there is some explicit content so don’t listen to it in the car with your kids hahaha.

I will accept absolutely ZERO criticisms about this book, none, nada! If you didn’t like this book, well, you are missing out. Blair wrote each and every character with so much heart. By the end of this book I am also a “Disco Witch of Fire Island”. This book had me from beginning to end. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting this on audio, the narrator was on fire with very different accent, gender and inflection he did. He brought every character to life and then some.

I believe this is a love story to the queer/ gay/ LGBTQIA+ community. I’m also obsessed with everything from the 80s so the setting of it being the summer of 1989 was 🤌🏻🫶🏻!

WOW! What a great book!

Thank you Blair for this flashback in time and emotional journey! I was captivated by the characters in your story and felt their pain and triumphs while listening to this novel. I usually only listen while driving, but was so engrossed in the story, I found other times to listen. I have now started listening to books while walking and driving thanks to not wanting to “put your book down.” The only disappointment was the book coming to an end. I really hope there are plans for book two! :)
