For over 30 years, Dominion of Blades has been the hottest online role-playing game in the world. Any gamer with an immersion rig can enter the world of sword and sorcery, of goblins and dragons, and they can hack and slash their way to glory. But the game is too real for some, and after an epidemic of real-life fatalities, public use of the immersion technology has been banned, causing the game to be shut down.

Jonah wakes to find himself in-game, level one, with no memory of how he arrived and no way to eject. With only two companions, trapped in a world that once hosted millions, Jonah must battle his way across a treacherous landscape, fighting virtual monsters, all too real pain, and a very human enemy in a desperate bid to survive.

LitRPG means Literary Role Playing Game. Simply put, it’s the book version of watching someone play a video game, usually one that’s set up like an MMO (massively multiplayer online) RPG. It’s a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, depending on how it comes to be that our main character ends up living inside a virtual reality. the point of LitRPG is not how we get there, but that we get to be in this virtual reality period, living life as a badass video-game character. Beat the grind and submerse yourself in these addictive LitRPGs.

Dominion of Blades has a great sense of humor with just enough danger to balance it off. I laughed out loud plenty of times, especially during the bits about avoiding quests. But the author also creates a decent sense of peril, which can be hard in a story where the characters can simply respawn if killed.

The story is a little slow to start, but once it does it grabs on and doesn't let go. It builds on details throughout, and it's full of well implemented twists to keep you guessing, which makes the ending very satisfying.

The characters are very well written and unique, which can be rare in the LitRPG genre and helps build a solid emotional connection with each of them. If you've read some of the other reviews for it, you probably already know that it explores some controversial topics, which can bother some readers. But it works for the story and makes it feel more personal. It's also good to see the genre get a much needed dose of diversity.

Overall I can't wait for the next one, cause I got a credit with it's name on it. We need more LitRPG like this!

After reading the Dungeon Crawler Carl series I really wanted another similar book and this was it. Highly recommend it if you like the Fantasy, sci-fi, role playing, video game genres.

I can't relate to the main character it feels to political and annoying. It could be just the timing of when I listen to it but the main characters lifestyle and choices make it so there is little to nothing in common. the author doesn't smack you in the head with it repeatedly but honestly there isn't enough back story on the characters to make what was provided even needed. I listened to the 2nd book and when released I'll probably listen to the third. Matt's dcc books are amazing and that's why I tried this one but it's not even in the same country as far as storys go. This story seams rushed and the political aspects take away from the enjoyment.

don't love it but don't hate it.
