Del will protect his new friends at any cost....

Street rat Del used to only rely on himself, but since being stranded on a desert island with Lathan, Etenia, and a pair of newly hatched dragons, he’s learned about the importance of friendship. Which is why he’ll do anything to prevent them from being hurt, even if it means leaving his homeland Pothena vulnerable to a threat that lurks deep off the coast; something even deadlier than a kraken.

Etenia insists that Pothena needs the warning, and they are the only ones who can deliver it. Without dragons, Pothena has no defenses against this deadly new foe. But the days of dragon-riding in the kingdom are long gone. To stand a chance, they’ll need to somehow revive the dragon-riding academy that has lain dormant for two and a half centuries.

Del will need to find the balance between protecting his friends and defending Pothena as the danger around them grows. The Qapirans have only begun to wake, and if they aren’t stopped they will rain down havoc on Pothena and beyond.

Their experience on the island has changed each of them in some ways. Back home, Del had been a street rat, used to counting only on himself. Now he has friends he cares about and wants to protect. He also has his dragon Searsha. And unknown to him, the young street rats in the city look up to him and will do whatever he asks of them. He has their respect, but he has to recognize it within himself. Etenia, a wealthy merchant’s daughter, and Lathan, a former dragon rider, and the newly hatched dragons have been Del’s friends and he has learned to cherish that relationship.

Now his homeland Pothena has a threat coming as the Qapira are headed their way for battle. No one in authority will listen to their warnings. And Pothena has no defenses to use against this deadly foe coming for them. Dragons could be the answer, but they will have to bring back the dragon-riding academy that has been shut down for two and a half centuries. Now it’s a race against time to prepare the defense for Porthena even though the leaders do not believe there is danger on the way. Can Del and his friends mount an effective defense for Pothena? And if they survive, will Del and Etenia ever tell each other that they have fallen in love, that her plans to marry Finnlay were never real? Is a HEA waiting for them? The narrator for the audiobook version, Jeanie Talbot, brings the “reading” experience alive for the listener. She does a good job with the voices to personalize the story and make it easy for the listener to get an accurate impression of what each character is like. It helps to set the mood, familiarize the reader with the characters, and offers a pleasant way to “read” and enjoy the book.

book two had more action and better plot development than the first one. I think I really enjoyed this one and I am looking forward to reading the last book in the trilogy.

Even better than book1

What a great second installment to the Qapira series. Del and Etenia are back home but now they need to convince the council that there is danger to Pothena from an ancient race. This is a great story the narration is amazing with all the different accents. Lots of twists and turns as well as snarky dragons. Can’t wait for the next book
An absolute must read.
