From a world-renowned authority on alcohol abuse, a book that exposes the side effects drinking imposes on our overall health–and how we can moderate our consumption.

From after-work happy hour to a nightly glass of wine, we're used to thinking of alcohol as a normal part of our daily lives. In Drink?, neuropharmacology professor David Nutt takes a fascinating, science-based look at drinking to unpack why we should reconsider our favorite pastime.

Nutt addresses topics such as hormones, mental health, fertility, and addiction, explaining how alcohol effects us even after it leaves our systems. With accessible language, Nutt ensures that readers recognize why alcohol can have such a negative influence on our bodies and our society. Drink? gives readers clear, evidence-based facts to help them make the most informed choices about their alcohol intake.

If you want to have a deeper understanding of how alcohol interacts with our minds and bodies, this is a must read. I will listen again and recommend it to friends.

As has been mentioned by others, those of us raised measuring alcohol in ounces and minding the BAC .08 instead of milliliters and units are left stumbling during the many examples of quantities of alcohol and its impact on the body. I don't blame the author for this, however, I blame the US's reluctance to join the rest of the world using the metric system. The author reads the audio book, and while quite knowledgeable and seemingly pleasant, he has the disruptive tendency to start sentences in a strong, full voice, and then lose volume until the end of the sentence is nearly a whisper. If you pump up the volume to hear these last drops the sentences blare at the beginning, but if you tone it down the last few words are a mumble. The content is valuable, I just wish I read the text myself and perhaps joined an exchange program in 6th grade so I learned the metric system.

This book has changed my overall view of alcohol in my home. I wouldn’t say that I have a problem with it but it’s definitely not healthy for me. At least I will drink moderately or not at all great book. Thank you.
