This is a Standalone Novel In a world of uncertainty, economic collapse and a breakdown of law and order, the fight for survival is all too real. Several months after the EMP struck, life as Detective Sarah Blackman knew it, has changed. Forced to make difficult decisions with a young child in tow, Sarah’s life is now a constant battle for survival in this land of diminishing morals and devastating consequences. The duo is quickly running out of basic necessities and know they won’t survive much longer without them, so they embark on a journey to the Great Lakes area in hopes of obtaining fresh water and an ample food supply to sustain them. Their journey will bring them face-to-face with degenerates and unsavory survivors. New choices will have to be made in order to secure their safety, but will those choices ultimately lead to their demise? Who can they trust in a land filled with opportunists and scoundrels? The story was not bad but the writing had issues. One was that the ending lost continuity. The story had gaps and when it picked up, the situation was different. Obviously, the last editorial rewrite was not well edited. Sometimes the protagonist had his guns and sometimes he had given them all away for example. There are also many times when an almost identical sentence is repeated with the same paragraph. It felt like an old vinyl record skipping the track.

Additionally, the AI reader has issues. For example, it cannot differentiate between R-E-A-D in present and past tense. There are other instances of mispronounced words. It’s still understandable but uncomfortable. Also, it inflects emotions incorrectly. This can be quite awkward. I’m not in favor of the technology. True human narrators can also change voices for characters making it easier to know who is talking. This AI did not.

Not awful but not an A+ read either.

AI as a reader has long way to go and the story is not well edited.

I kept thinking the timing was wrong and flat. which kept throwing off the rhythm of the story. didn't realize that it was a virtual voice until the end. Will make sure in the future to notice the narrator and not select a book that is narrated virtually. really bad.

wooden stiff narration

The AI is really bad. There is no inflection that makes it something you can hold on to and want to hear more.

The perpetual mention of the Great Lakes proves that this author has never been there. There are no orange trees for a thousand miles of the Great Lakes. He also speaks of the lakes like they are a recreational area when you actually have to travel hundreds of miles to go from the southern most lake to the northern most. Having read hundreds of post apocalyptic titles and there were just too many holes and inconsistencies. It had potential but just fell flat. Don’t stop writing though you’ll get there.
