Rowan Harbor has had a tough winter, and Devon Murphy wants nothing more than to make it better. When he proposes a solution to the town’s low morale, it creates a rift in his relationship with his boyfriend, Wade. They’ve hardly ever argued, and when things get tense, Devon has no idea how to handle it.

But an evil presence in his town targets the people Devon loves, he has to put his personal worries aside and face danger down again. Will he be able to protect his town, and if he can, will Wade be waiting for him when it’s done?

The narrator is different from the whole rest of the series. I get availability can play a part, but any narrator worth their salt would check pronunciation of common words, as well as listen to what came before. Also, not much vocal differentiation between characters. He’s not bad, but he needs to really break it down and do research. Anyone can read the text, but a narrator tells a story.

Great story continuation, meh reader

Eagle in the Hawthorn brings Devon and Wade’s journey to a deeply satisfying and heartfelt close, weaving love, loyalty, and magic into a final chapter that feels both inevitable and hard-won. Devon’s growth—from self-doubt to quiet confidence—shines here, matched perfectly by Wade’s steadfast devotion and strength. The emotional beats hit with precision, balancing tender romance with the thrill of facing their last, greatest challenge together. Burns rewards long-time readers with the kind of emotional payoff that feels like coming home after a long winter.

Thrilling and Satisfying
