As a survivor of the horrific Hunter program, Breed vampire and former assassin Knox is a solitary man, closed off to the pain of love - and loss. A loner by choice, Knox deals in death and dark justice, expecting nothing in return. Until one snowy night he drifts into a remote town in northern Maine, where a determined beauty enlists his lethal assistance, tempting not only his hunger, but his wounded heart as well.

Lenora Calhoun has lived in tiny Parrish Falls all her life. Owner of the local diner that's been in her family for generations, Leni's as stalwart and stubborn as the tall pines that surround her. That unshakable resolve doesn't sit well with everyone, least of all the most powerful family in the logging town.

Leni's been the target of their animosity for years, but with their escalating threats now putting an innocent child's safety at risk, she takes a desperate chance on a dangerous stranger - a man who is something more than human. Knox's deadly skills and turbulent gaze should be warning enough for Leni to guard her heart, yet she cannot deny the yearning he stirs in her blood.

For the merciless Breed male is the only man she can trust in a town full of secrets, and where taking a stand could rip away everything she holds dear.

Contains mature themes.

I love this hunter series spin off from Lara Adrian! Another story about the bred and Knox. We finally get the story about Knox. He travels and can't seem to settle down anywhere long at a time. Then he saves Lenora and tries to leave again but something keeps him around. (wonder who that would be?) That is the one thing that the hunters do is protect.
The book has a great plot story, and I love Lenora. Her character is well developed and the best fit to Knox. Because she gives back to him as much as he gives to her, love the banter between them. Love little Riley. Maybe it is time for him to settle down with her and Riley. It was not hard to fall in love with these two. I was hoping that they would go back to Florida just to be with the rest of the hunters and their mates. Can't wait for the next hunter's story (Razor).
Love the narrator.

Knox, former Hunter, wants nothing to do with breedmate, Lenny, but he still can’t stop himself from helping her with her issues. This book is real good with lots of great action and emotional awaking. Great performance by Roger Wayne.

Emotional Awakening

I wish all the Midnight Breed books had been narrated by Roger Wayne. He is excellent. Does a very sexy male voice and a quite good female voice with good differentiation between characters. To my way of thinking, all books with groups of males as the basis for the story, should be narrated by men. Like the BDB and books about groups of SEALS, Rangers, etc. There will naturally be more conversation between men than women in these books.

Story good, narrator GREAT!!
