"Either Side of Midnight is a gripping, gritty thriller with an ingeniously shocking premise and twists and turns you’ll never see coming!" (Liane Moriarty)

One million witnesses. One impossible murder.

An electrifying thriller with a mind-bending premise: one million viewers witness a popular TV presenter commit suicide live on air - yet his twin brother is convinced it was murder.

How can it be murder when the victim pulled the trigger?

At 9.01 p.m., TV presenter Sam Midford delivers the monologue for his popular current affairs show Mr Midnight. He seems nervous, and the crew is convinced he’s about to propose to his girlfriend live on air. Instead, he pulls out a gun and shoots himself in the head.

Sam’s grief-stricken brother, Harry, is convinced his brother was murdered. But how can that be, when one million viewers witnessed Sam pull the trigger? Only Jack Quick, a disgraced television producer in the last days of a prison sentence, is desperate enough to take Harry’s money to investigate.

But as Jack starts digging, he finds a mystery more complex than he first assumed. And if he’s not careful, he'll find out firsthand that there’s more than one way to kill someone....

Either Side of Midnight is a stand-alone novel featuring Jack Quick.

I have really enjoyed every Benjamin Stevenson book I’ve listened to, this one included. But it was by far one of the hardest listens I’ve had. Not the narrator, he was wonderful, but the content. I had to take a break a few times and cried more than once. It’s definitely worth a listen but go into it prepared.

Great story but not an easy listen

The writing feels unique and always keeps me guessing until the end, without creating ridiculous plot lines (in a good way). And the narrator is absolutely fantastic! Wouldn’t be the same without him. He manages to give a unique voice to each character and is very well matched for the author in my opinion.

Yet another winner by this author!

The mystery in this book was great. Actually, that's what kept me listening because for me there was way too much introspection, hand ringing and internal narrative. I also found the staccato narration to be distracting although I know some found it perfect. When Jack started his self-flagellation I could blank out till it was over and not miss a thing. Also, the ending left me luke warm.
So, the mystery was great everything else so,so. Would I read this author again? Probably not.

A good mystery

Too many characters. Cannot keep up with them. Story is Not easy to follow. Jumps from scene to scene.

The narrator! He was excellent!

I loved this authors more recent series and gave this one a shot. this was a good book but you can tell Stevenson was getting his bearings. The books are kind of sad and I never felt super connected to the main character I highly recommend his other series though

a little bland
