In the seven years since he learned his US marshal father lead a double life as a contract killer - and committed suicide to avoid prosecution - Frank Temple III has mostly drifted through life. But when he learns that Devin Matteson, the man who lured his father into the killing game only to later give him up to the FBI, is returning to the isolated Wisconsin lake that was once sacred ground for their families, it's a homecoming Frank can't allow.

Frank finds Matteson's old cabin occupied by a strange, beautiful woman and a nervous man with a gun. But when a pair of assassins arrives on their heels, he knows Matteson can't be far behind. The wise move would be to get out of town - but that doesn't feel right. After all, contract killer or not, Frank's father was at heart a teacher. And his son was an excellent student.

Overall, the story was okay. It wasn't a complex mystery, so it depended greatly on character development, which he does well. The plot felt more like a slow unfolding backstory revealing how it impacted a few characters in the present. The narrator did a great job, which I think helped quite a bit, other than that, it was so-so. If you enjoy the author, then you'll also be OKAY with this book. He has written better, and he has written worse.

Not super amazing...but

Poor story. What did the thugs need the Gps for? So many holes in this story. Impossible to follow the logic of most of the characters’ actions.

Weak story

I liked the storyline, author has a smooth way of writing that is easy to read/listen to.
Now the narrator needs to go, the voice he used for the female lead made her sound like a complete wimp and idiot. A stronger voice would have truly added to the storyline and gave some credence to it.
The voices for the "bad guys/tough guys" was so low and gravely and slow talking that it was just plain annoying.
I think another take on the characters voices or narrator would do the book a lot of good.

Good Story-Interesting Narrator

Great narrator! Liked the beginning of the story, and towards the end, but two thirds in, all the back and forth between the characters out on an island, in boats, in the water, shooting at each other, good with each other, then not, was too convoluted for me. However, I hung in til the end, and liked the ending.

Didn't like that much.

I enjoyed this book, which did not have an obvious plot and had substantial characterization.
