Liked the story but...

First time reading or hearing anything by this author. I enjoyed the story for the most part. I had a really hard time with the female narrator. I did not like the voice she used for Maddie. It was hard for me to continue listening, but I wanted to know what happened and how the story÷ would end. I would get frustrated when certain parts of the story didn't play out (like everything that happened after she left for school). I would have rather been part of the story as it happened and not skipping to years later and the characters mentioning what happened in the past. I love the concept of them being in love from a young age. Grand-mama I think was my favorite character. I like how Pops turned it around. I think there could have been so much more story to tell, but that's what makes me keep reading certain authors...when they leave me wanting more! I think I will continue this series by reading it vs audible.

Definition of mediocre

I had just high hopes for this book. I looked at it so many times. I gave in and listened. The performance was annoying. Her voice was whiny. His was unmemorable. More than half the story was when they were teenagers. He finds her in 2 minutes once they hit adulthood. Tragedy strikes and they’re instantly back in love. Insert eye roll. Another tragedy and fight. And then love again. I thought it was a firefighter sexy romance. Nope. Just immature behavior and a poor story.

Not my personal favorite…

I am the sort of person who wants to finish a book when they start it. I read the reviews and expected this one to be exciting, funny, and overall great read/listen. Honestly, there is just way too much filler. So much stuff that drags it out and isn’t necessary for the story to be told. Some doesn’t even relate to the story. It was hard to finish. Also, Maddie is way too dramatic of a female lead for me. I don’t enjoy weak female leads who are over emotional and dramatic… and she is one.

I didn’t enjoy the narration, but I really think that’s because of how the book was written. Their voices were good, I just feel like the story made everything a drag. I also felt like a lot of the reactions to some things that happened in the story were unrealistic.

Just my personal opinion, and I don’t want to be rude. Just not one I would listen to again. Could have been a great book with half as much of the “filler” detail and a less dramatic lead female.

Emotional roller coaster

This was such a tearful listen for me, even though the narrations could have been better. Two kids who grew to be each other’s everything and fall deeply in love. For some who have not experienced childhood trauma, their story might be far fetched. As someone who has experienced most of what the two main characters experienced, I can relate to why they handled things the way they did. When you’re that young, you don’t always think things through logically. Give the story a chance and try to put yourself in the character’s shoes and you might enjoy the story more.

Felt like the girl was very selfish and naive. Cried a lot. Traumatic event happened and she let it destroy her self as a social worker herself it’s like get therapy.
