In 2013, Dan had a heart attack. Facing his mortality shined a light on what was important in life. Since then the former professional football player and star of the American Gladiators has been sharing everything he learned about happiness and what makes life worth living as an in-demand speaker and writer. He has been featured on media outlets such as the Today show, Good Morning America, The Early Show, Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight, ESPN, EXTRA!, Tyra Banks, People, Time, Esquire, Men's Health, Maxim, and the Huffington Post. Dan lives in the Hollywood Hills. He was the last straight guy to date Ellen, even if it was only on TV. And yep, he Crossfit. This is his second book.

An intriguing and honest look inside one of the original Gladiators and how a heart attack taught him to truly live. Dan is introspective and shares the lessons he's learned. I could relate on many levels with his "how could this happen to me" moments and found his insights on turning things around to be great advice.

An interesting, raw glimpse into Dan's physical and emotional struggles with mindful lessons on how to look at every day from a new perspective. I listened to the audio book and was pulled into every word as Dan is an incredible story teller. I was really feeling it, this could easily be my journey as well. I find myself thinking about the positive messages and strategies long after finishing the book. Loved it! I plan to buy several to hand out to my family and friends.

I really liked this closer, vulnerable look at Dan's life. I think it holds potential to reach a large audience to help change people's perspectives on their lives and make small improvements to enjoy each day. At times, the book reads a little bit like a self-help a book, but thankfully it lacks the structure many of those books do, instead using Dan's own experiences as his platform for reflection. Dan has made ideas like practicing gratitude especially accessible and provides resources to help. I listened to this all in one day, and it was a really lovely day. I plan to buy his other book as well.

I'm not sure what I expected when I bought this book but I was hoping for some insight. This book is not necessarily going to reveal something completely new to you, but it will remind you of what is important and encourage you to live in the way you are meant to to live and treat those around you in a way that keeps you connected in your human experience. I appreciate the author's honesty about himself and his experiences because it gives me the courage to be a little more critical if myself. I appreciate the real work he has done in his life journey to beore groundes and improve both his life and the lives around him and to stop living by the rules of the hustle and bustle of what society tells us life should be.
