Faking it with my best friend wasn’t supposed to start a war....

The plan was meant to be simple. I pretend to be Xander’s girlfriend to stop his mother setting him up, because now that he’s the alpha, she can’t wait to secure the bloodline.

Only it turns out a human like me isn’t good enough, and she sets him up, anyway.

That’s when all hell breaks loose.

When Xander rejects the female shifter who is the daughter of their ally pack’s alpha, wolf daddy’s fangs come out.

Not only have we turned Xander’s ally pack into an enemy, we’ve done something much, much worse.

We’ve fallen in love with each other....

Don't let the title deter you from taking a chance on this book. I actually really liked it. It was kind of an easy love story which honestly was a really nice change of pace for me. I needed a break from bully romances and guys being dogs and treating women like sh*t. The MMC is just focused on his pack and job and really appreciates his friendship with the FMC. There wasn't a bunch of sleeping with other women at the beginning like most MMC's I read about anymore. Their friends to lovers story was good. There was a lot of humor in this book and I laughed quite a bit. The FMC's grandma was a hoot. There was drama of course in the book but it didn't really come from mean girls or the guy being an idiot which was refreshing. The FMC did annoy me towards the end and I wish she wouldn't have acted so weak, but I really liked her through the majority of the book even though she sometimes let people talk down to her and wouldn't say anything about it. She started finding a backbone, then did a 180 towards the end and started being whiney and weak. It ends in a cliffhanger and I'm actually excitedly anticipating the next book. I wish I had known and waited until they were both available. I listened the the audiobook and actually really enjoyed the narrators. Overall I would definitely recommend this book. It's a friend's to lovers, He falls first, Alpha protector but not too extreme, several people don't think they should be together type book. There wasn't much I didn't like about this book; it was very good and I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and how it was written. Loved the dual POV. A+

Good book...despite the title

Felicity and Xander were born to a human and the other to a shifter. Life through them together and love grows, hate tries to break them, but is not strong enough.

This story was really good, it did have a slow and kind of boring beginning. But it picked up and became one of my favorite books. ❤️💯approve and recommend to anyone who loves wolf shifter stories

🧡 The Heroine – Felicity

Felicity is a compassionate nurse with a chronic case of being too selfless—especially when it comes to her manipulative, serial-wife mother. Mom flits between wealthy boyfriends, flaunts her status, and treats Felicity like an afterthought, forgetting her birthday and criticizing her weight. Thankfully, Felicity’s grandmother is her emotional anchor, always stepping in where her mother fails. Felicity’s closest confidant? Xander, a wolf shifter and her best friend since high school. She’s human, he’s alpha—cue the tension.

💪 The Hero – Xander

Xander leads his pack with strength and integrity, but his biggest challenge isn’t rival alphas—it’s his matchmaking mother. At thirty-four, he’s constantly dodging blind dates with eligible she-wolves, while quietly pining for Felicity. He sees her as beautiful, grounded, and far too good for him. Unlike the human women who chase shifters for status, Felicity knows the cost of loving an alpha. Their bond is deep, but strictly platonic… or so they think.

🍷 The Storyline

When Felicity’s nana faces eviction thanks to her late grandfather’s gambling debts—and her mother’s refusal to help—things get desperate. Her mother threatens to shove Nana into a nursing home unless Felicity joins the “family business” of marrying rich. Xander, dealing with his own maternal meddling, proposes a solution: fake a relationship to get both moms off their backs. What starts as a strategic charade soon stirs up real feelings neither of them expected.

🔎 Strengths

• Classic friends-to-lovers and fake dating tropes, executed with heart.
• Pack politics add juicy drama, especially when Xander rejects a rival alpha’s daughter.
• Xander standing up to his mother is a highlight—protective, firm, and emotionally satisfying.

⚠️ Weaknesses

• The story leans long in places, with some pacing drag.
• Xander’s mother’s prejudice against humans adds a layer of species-based elitism that’s uncomfortable, though it’s addressed in the narrative.

🎧 Narration & Performance

Told in dual POV with dual narration, the audiobook features Meghan Kelly and Oliver Highpoint. Kelly’s performance is emotionally expressive but veers into overacting, especially with side characters—her voice can feel whiny at times. Highpoint has a solid delivery, though his tone skews older than Xander’s thirty-something vibe. Neither narrator fully nails the emotional depth, but the story itself carries through.

💬 Final Thoughts

This audiobook delivers a heartfelt blend of emotional stakes, pack politics, and slow-burn romance. Despite a few bumps in narration and pacing, the chemistry between Felicity and Xander—and their journey from friendship to something more—is worth the listen.
