Miranda Kale doesn’t believe in ghosts...until she meets one. Without warning, the ghost girl appears in her room and tells her to expect a phone call. Despite the strangest referral ever, Miranda accepts what appears to be a simple case of high-class mischief at an exclusive boarding school.

The headmistress can’t tell her much, but she fears one of the students might be in danger. Rooms are being searched, seemingly at random, and the list of potential targets stretches to nearly everybody. Still, compared to Miranda’s other cases, this one has all the markings of an open/shut one for her and her dog.

Looks can be deceiving.

Somebody has a keen interest in this small, posh school, and it’s up to Miranda and Tate to expose the bad guys before that interest turns fatal.

To ask for spiritual guidance has taken up a completely different meaning in this "who done it", when the reason for taking up an investigation comes from a otherworldly source.
So the case, based at an elite boarding school, involves what?
That's the interesting problem that our intrepid sloth has to use both her own and her canine companions skills to solve.

Spiritual assistance of a different type.

I was disappointed at the use of some mildly inappropriate language in a few places. I normally don’t have to worry about that with this author. Otherwise it was once again a great read from Ms. Gilbert.

Disappointed

I enjoyed this first book in the "Ghost Girl Files" series. Miranda Kale was between jobs, when a ghost visited her to ask her to take a particular job. Miranda doesn't believe in ghosts, but when the headmistress of an elite school called and asked her to investigate some strange happenings in the school, Miranda may have to adjust her belief. The story was surprisingly complex for a novella. I liked the characters. I liked the fast-paced flow of the story. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Brittany Goodwin's narration was entertaining. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

I enjoyed this book. It has a lot going on and doesn't answer all the questions I had, but I suppose if I started with her other series I would have some of these answers.
That aside, the story was decent. Character development was a little light for new characters (understanding returning characters were developed in other books, hopefully).
The narrator was great. Though I do usually listen to books on 1.25 o 1.5, this book seems fast paced due to the narrators emphasis when the pace picks up.
I liked it enough to put another of her books on my wish list.
