At last, Sergeant Ryck Lysander has found a home in the United Federation Marine Corps, and has proven the temper of his steel in combat.

Stepping up as an NCO, however, is something different. It isn’t enough to be an effective warrior. He has to be able to lead his fellow Marines, all without doubting his own abilities.

Failing will not only lead to his own death, but to those under his command. The responsibility is heavy, and the cost of losing is high.

At the same time, an old ally becomes a new enemy, thrusting Ryck into a life and death situation where success or failure rides on his shoulders.

The question he must answer for himself is whether he has what it takes to lead...or if he should have stayed a recruit after all.

Witness the second entry in the Federation Marine series from USA Today best-selling author Jonathan P. Brazee. If you're a fan of Sentenced to War, Old Man's War, or Starship Troopers, this is the series for you.

Jonathan brazee has created another great story from the point of view of serious military. it is a challenge when the sound engineering for the narration is poor. The previous book things were fine this recording every few sentences suddenly has a completely different engineering and background sounds and then it goes back to normal. I suggest you don't listen to this with headphones.

a great story, poor engineering

I used to buy the whole series when I bought the first book, but I've been burned so many times now on Audible with authors writing in LGBTQ CRAP!!!!! or Girl Boss B.S. and ruining the story. Half the time I don't get past the first book anymore. Its so Disappointing and it sucks..
So far this author has been Awesome... I'm on his third book in this series and I'm looking forward to the fourth if that tells you anything.
This is the first time I've listened to this author's stories, and I'm pleasantly surprised. The story is well written. The combat scenarios are realistic. The standard conversation between people outside the military is great. It just describes real life very well. It's enjoyable to listen. At first I wasn't real hip to the narration or the narrator, but I've actually gotten used to it..He's no Mark Boyett, but he's not bad, and I think the more he reads, the better he'll get. Anyway, I highly recommend the series so far and the writer. And I'm eagerly anticipating his next promotion.

A Great!!, well-rounded book and series

I listened to the original version of this book and Recruit awhile ago before Brazee collaborated with Chaney on a refresh of this wonderful story. Book 1 and this book are just really damn good. They remind me of the really dang good Sentenced to War series - which I’ve listened all the way through (15 books) twice now.
From what I’ve read in some of the reviews, there are some wondering where the original books went and are butt hurt somehow. Screw them. Buy this or drop a credit AFTER you go listen to the refreshed book Recruit. There’s a different feel to these refreshed books than the originals. A good feel.
Note to the authors: hurry up now. I’m ready to binge listen to the rest now.

So damn good!
