People like Ig are born from life-threatening trials that bind periodic elements to the human body, forged in the boiling volcanoes and subterranean passages under Mira's frozen lands. One of the most powerful known elementals, he is forced to work as an enforcer for Magnate Sorrelo Adriann - cursed with a flesh binding - magic that will kill him at the first sign of disobedience.

When Sorrelo is overthrown, Ig quickly learns he can do worse - far worse - than what has been asked from him so far. If he can't escape the flesh binding in time, Ig will have to kill friend and foe alike as his master seeks to reclaim the throne or sacrifice himself trying.

You will not be disappointed. A great concept very well executed and narrated. I listened to this in two sittings and definitely look forward to future titles from the author and narrator.

This is the freshest, most unique fantasy I’ve encountered in ages. The story and execution is brilliant, the narrator on point, and you won’t regret taking the time to listen. This is a brutal dark fantasy, however, which tackles hard themes of power, corruption, and genocide, so be warned; Chapter 25 was incredibly difficult to listen to. That being said, I will definitely be buying a physical copy of this book, and its sequels, whenever those come out. Clay Harmon is one to watch.

Criminally Under-rated

I’ve been searching for something good to listen to after listening to the The Licanius Trilogy Series. This was a pleasant surprise. Not once was I bored with the storyline. I dotn want to give away too much of the story while writing this review but the way IG was written was well written in my opinion. I found my self getting upset on his behalf and his suffering was written so well that I could feel what he felt. 10/10 I would highly recommend for anybody looking for something good to listen to. I’m already on book 2

Underrated story

It’s been a while since I’ve listened to a new series with a unique basis for magical power. Using chemistry to support the basis is a more intriguing than a lost sword or god.
I believe the idea of puppeteering power is also a fresh one. I’m looking forward to an even deeper connection between geology, chemistry and ability in future books.
The character development is great however, a little more ambiguity between light and dark would keep things interesting. Nothings worse than a perpetual Boy Scout in a grim dark fantasy.
The author is teetering on the edge of greatness and mediocrity. I will definitely get the second book to see where he lands.

As far as debuts go for new authors, this one was absolutely amazing! I imagine as time goes by this grim dark book will become wildly popular.

I only have 2 complaints.first that I wish that some of the scenes had more written about it.I felt like some of the writing was rushed. and my other complaint is that I can't read any other books by clay Harmon yet lol. but overall I loved the very unique world that clay Harmon was able to paint

How is this book not more popular?!?!
