In Tokyo, a squad of fanatic Japanese nationalists force their way into the Imperial Palace and behead the emperor. It is a grisly first move in a sinister conspiracy to take advantage of a weakened Russia and invade oil-rich Siberia. The goal? World domination. The price? A third world war. Bound by a secret protocol to come to Russia's aid in the event of a war, but eager to avoid armed conflict, Washington sends Air Force Colonel Bob Cassidy and a squadron of fighter pilots on a secret mission to thwart the Japanese terrorists. Filled with dramatic scenes of battles in the air and on the sea, Fortunes of War tells an epic story of three heroes, three countries, and a world hanging in the balance.

The book is a great story. Fast paced and detailed. This reading however cuts out details that bring more immersion for the story. Complete paragraphs are not included. Read the book in its entirety and do not leave anything out OR DO NOT READ IT AT ALL. Missing paragraphs completely changed the character development and the attempt to bring them
More humanity.

Excellent book…. However….

I loved this one. It kept me listening and had a difficult time finding stopping points. The plots intermingled perfectly and the narrator did an excellent job. Every time I thought it was getting too predictable, I'd be surprised by what happened next. I highly recommend it.

Excellent - Action and suspense.

Pages ripped from history...in this case, the American Volunteer Group (Flying Tigers) of pre WWII fame. This time with a squadron of F-22s and some ex and aging fighter pilots versus a new, secret and stealthy Japanese Zero. Exciting read, if a little light on the technology and naive in it's politics. Yes, there's lots of technology in here, it's just not all exactly right. And, to imagine that a(nother) sino soviet war could exist without US intervention? Hmmm? Those concerns aside, it was a fun and invigorating read/listen.

This audiobook was such a treat to listen to. The plot was concise but exhilarating and the pacing was just right. I felt as though something exciting was always about to happen, but the book had just the right amounts of twists and turns to keep me guessing. Anyone who likes techno thrillers, Tom Clancy-esque political thrillers, modern dogfights, submarine warfare, or anything like that should definitely give this book a shot.

A thriller in every sense of the word
