Jack Atlas: twice as cocky, insufferable, and neck-deep in the Tower—AKA the divine death trap.

Stuck in a dungeon meticulously designed to ruin their lives in the most entertaining way possible, Jack and his best friend, Hannah, are outnumbered and outmatched by monsters with questionable ethics. Jack knows he should be fighting for his life, but where’s the fun in that? Instead, he’s decided to charm the dungeon’s nastiest creatures, turning enemies into reluctant allies, and allies… let’s just say things get complicated.

A civil war is raging outside the dungeon, where things have gone from bad, to ‘the world’s literally on fire’. On one side is his ex-mentor, Rodeo—a guy who makes violating the Geneva Conventions look like a hobby. On the other, his ‘we’re totally over but let’s not rule out hate-flirting’ ex, Sarah, who’s leading the good guys with the moral superiority of a saint and the firepower of a dragon.

Jack’s got a simple plan. Escape the dungeon, avoid getting eaten, or betrayed—or both—figure out whether Sarah wants to kill him or kiss him, and just maybe land a solid punch on Rodeo’s smug face. All before happy hour, because, priorities.

Story is solid just enough darkness, twist and proper characterization. Narration is dope. I’m trying not to go to RR and read ahead since we are so close to the next release.

I’m all the way in!

This book was very good, the overall story was interesting and the villains were great but the author is incredibly fond of catastrophic setbacks. I have a feeling I’ll die of old age before Jack reaches the top of this tower.

I can’t recall a dull moment in this book, it felt like something was always happening. Jack also experiences a lot of character growth as well, showing there’s much more depth to him that’s been hidden. I’m very much looking forward to book 3 and beyond

Excellent Sequel

Ok, so…love this series so far. Jack was a complete moron in the first installment, but, less so in the second book. I do appreciate his disregard for all things “tower”. He’s also more aware of his abilities; and, yet, still completely reckless. After 35+ hours of listening to both books; they are still on ONLY THE FIRST FLOOR!!! Seriously, kind of makes very little sense. Also, the “system” is all over the place; there is very little sense of how the tower/system works (seems random and petty at best, and utterly ridiculous in op options as well). The highest floor discussed was 17 (I think), and at this rate it maybe makes sense, but, still… It is difficult to understand any motivations to move forward if the system continues to be so arbitrary and if there is zero glimpse of what the functions of various “gods” are… At this point it simply becomes a choice whether you enjoy MC’s antics to move on with the series or if you care about the machinations of the system/tower and are looking for a point to anything (including the plot).

Love the snark and action

If you enjoyed the first one you will love this. The book fleshes out Jack and Hanna's relationship and reveals why Jack is the way he is. Lots of action and character development

Keeps getting better.
