Dolores is a grade school teacher married to Lawrence, a handsome, high school music teacher. She settled into the role of wife and mother, creating the picture perfect life in a small, Southern California town where everyone knows everyone else. Her world is shattered when Lawrence is accused of molesting his students. Dolores and her children become collateral damage as he is tried as a sex offender.

In order to assure a fair trial, the judge orders that she not talk to anyone about the trial. With no one to talk to, she struggles with conflicting emotions; she wants to believe her husband but finds that she has unsettling doubts. She knows that he is a narcissistic man who loves the accolades and admiration of his young (especially female) students, but would he go so far as to seduce his teenage charges?

The author takes us on an emotional whiplash of a ride as we feel Dolores anguish and wonder whether Lawrence is guilty of being a sex offender or is he the victim of malicious teenage gossip.

Would you try another book from Edward A Dreyfus and/or Daniela Acitelli?

NO, THE READING WAS SLOW. BESIDES THE ADULT LIKE CONTENT, THE WRITING AND READING SOUNDED LIKE A CHILD'S BOOK

How could the performance have been better?

THE VOICE CHANGE FOR THE CHARACTERS WAS HORRIBLE. THE VOICE FOR THE WIFE WAS EXCESSIVELY WINY.

Do you think Gag Rule needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

ABSOLUTELY NOT

NOT IMPRESSED

Dolores was a doormat. Lawrence was a d bag. Precocious teens trying to be adults. smh. I empathized a bit with Larry, but he didn't learn a thing. He was too self centered. I was glad Dolores woke up ,too late, but woke up finally. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job.

some people never learn from mistakes

"Gag Rule" (2016, 2017) by Edward A Dreyfus is essentially a Lifetime movie in literature form. It features Dolores Miller, a mousy elementary teacher and mother of two married to Lawrence, a self-centered, arrogant music teacher who faces a criminal trial for allegedly engaging in inappropriate sexual contact with his female high school students. The story itself is interesting enough but the author’s tendency to switch character perspective multiple times mid-scene drove me crazy. Still, the novel, including Daniela Acitelli’s narration, did hold my interest. Recommended. At my request, I was given this free audiobook and have voluntarily left this review.

A good novel about narcissism and the ramifications of those who fall in its wake.

Daniela Acitella did a good job narrating.
