The war has come, leaving in its wake a chasm between North and South, turning friends and brothers into enemies. Now, as the nation begins to understand the true meaning of civil war, so the Rocklins begin to understand the fierce and terrible pull of loyalty - to a way of life, to one's country, and to God.

Deborah Steele finds herself torn between her passionate belief in the Union and her deep love for Dent Rocklin, a dashing Confederate officer. But it isn't until Deborah sets out on a daring mission to rescue a captured Union soldier that she and Dent discover how deep their true loyalties lie...and how powerful real love can be.

Author Gilbert Morris wrote a believable historical novel as though he himself lived through the disruptive and damaging civil war. Both Union and Confederate family members, uncomfortable situations, soldiers signing up, daughter’s responses and even presidential leaders were dramatically developed to carry the listener along a dynamic adventure including faith, hope and love. I felt the narrator portrayed numerous male, female voices excellently especially during very touching moments. This is one of my favorite stories in the Appomattox Saga by Gilbert Morris.

A powerful story of loyalty, passion and bravery during the war that almost divided America.

All the ladies in my life, (wife, mother, daughters, were passing this book around and all talked about how much there were enjoying them. Broke down and downloaded the whole set. Glad I did!
