Miles Boone is running out of time. He had one year to solve every beginner’s quest the Game offers or he faces a lifetime of slavery. Now, time is flying by and he can’t even find a safe place to play the Game. His apartment has burned down while he was in it. His secretive father won’t let him enter the Game from his home. Miles’s only choice is to enter the underbelly of society and try to win his bet from anonymous VR pods controlled by an old associate - or is that enemy? - of his father’s.

Meanwhile, the Party’s hunt for him in-Game continues. Surrounded by enemies from without and within, Miles has to keep upping his Game. His lack of a Luck stat makes it impossible for him to play like anyone else. With no luck, Miles will have to gather the strength to survive.

Still one of my favorites

This second book is just as good as the first. Hopefully the third will be just as great once it actually comes out. It might be asking for a tiny hippo but I want it. It's still plays the folly of youth pretty well while delving deeper into world building and even a heart breaking decisions. But it is funny and I love the discovery of adventure this book brings.

Good work

This boy is supposed to be smart. When dealing with the the powerful, he is as dumb as a box of rocks. Instead of filling with the court of their constituents. Plus he constantly acts as if he can't think. And inspire of no luck stat he has more than he knows. A crazed fool out there is trying to kill him.

better then I could hope for a sequel

manages to expand on the ideas of the first book while keeping me entertained and excited for the next book.

This is a great twist on the genre and and overall
Amazing read. I couldn’t stop listening.
