For John Sutton, things are finally looking up... For now...

The farm is running smoothly, the local bandits have been pacified, and he is starting to understand how magic works. Though none of that will matter if he can’t get his Doom Points under control.

As Ellie seeks to join the ranks of Class Holders, the mystery surrounding her grandmother grows and the two of them set off to discover the truth. But her legacy as a Witch is not the only mystery that needs to be explored. A strange plant is growing in Ferdie’s field, and it’s given John a new quest.

Meanwhile, a secret organization spreading its tendrils of influence throughout the war-weary world is plotting to destroy the fragile peace John fought so hard to achieve. As the shadows that surround this world are peeled back, he'll need every ounce of wisdom and restraint he has ever possessed to keep from blowing the whole thing up himself.

Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

mainly the sound effects is subpar during battles. I'd prefer more effects so that the narrator isn't explaining so much.

good book but the audio is lacking.

The character development was good and the narrators were good. he supposed to be a 28-year-old combat veteran? But in the romance department he only gets a kiss on the cheek. It just seems a little childish to me. Maybe that's just because I listened to a lot of harmlit books. But you could do a little bit better in the romance department. They are not 14-year-olds.

The narrators and sound effects were great. the romance was lacking.

A great second installment in the series. Great story building and progression. The apocalypse draws closer.

Both my buddy and I listen to these together, as he is blind. We were disappointed to not see further books planned past book 4 in the dramatized adaptation, but now it looks like book 5 is coming out 10/2025. Really looking forward to the series completing as dramatix3d audio. Great story telling!

Great story and fantastic job by Graphic Audio

What happened? The first book was so good. It was refreshing in its simple economy, like the protagonist of one of the Old Western movies it drew inspiration from. It didn't mince words, it didn't overstay its welcome. The world was simple but evocative.

This book steers the world squarely into tropey LITRPG land. It's still better than 90% of the genre, but I think I'm getting off the bus here.

The VAs are also uniformly great. The only misfortune there was the miscast male MC, who is supposed to be late-20s but sounds early-50s at best. It's easy to ignore most of the time, but it's most glaring when he's placed opposite his early-20s female love interest. It sounds like a female YA protagonist falling in love with the narrator from a Tom Clancy book.

Disappointing flight after a promising takeoff
