An exploding Mardi Gras float has got to be the strangest murder weapon scrappy sleuth Carmela Bertrand has ever encountered in this latest Scrapbooking Mystery from the New York Times best-selling author.

It's Mardi Gras in New Orleans, and scrapbook shop owner Carmela Bertrand is excited to be attending the Pluvius Parade along with her best friend, Ava. Carmela's ex-husband, Shamus, rides by the duo on his float at the head of the parade, when suddenly the revelry turns to disaster. Shamus' float crashes and explodes, and although Shamus escapes unhurt, a member of his krewe is killed.

Carmela and Ava plunge into an investigation of the krewe member's death, but as they dig deeper, it starts to look less like an accident and more like a murder...and Shamus seems less like a victim and more like a suspect.

I liked the story. it was fun to have the story centered around Mardi Gras. and I love a good mystery.

fun characters!

Laura Childs is one of my favorite authors and I always look forward to her books. However this one was a disappointment. This was almost completely the narrator’s fault. She was horrendous - frustrating and annoying to listen to for longer than 2 minutes. She randomly puts long inappropriate pauses in completely nonsensical places. For example, “I don’t understand when (long pause) he could have done it,(long pause) said Carmela (long pause).
Though not her best, this story is a solid entry in Child’s excellent scrapbook mystery series. This narrator NEEDS TO GO. She completely ruins the book.

I love the writings of Laura Childs, but I really wish she could get a new narrator for this series. The way Danielle Ferland narrates is tough to endure. Before I changed to listening with Audible, I loved this series in paperback and was hoping I could keep up with the story on audio. The characters come off testy, difficult and whiny when read by this narrator and it's like listening to fingernails on chalkboard until about three-fourths of the way in and the narrator's voice becomes a little more palatable. Sorry for the bad review, but this is how it is.

Great Book but Not a Fun Listen
