Unconnected lives intersect in a bleak setting. Nothing will ever be the same.

Harbinger (def.): Something that foreshadows or initiates a major change.

Humanity lurches into an uncertain future, dismissive of warning signs. Only the most naïve believe humanity will step back from the brink. Yet in a place that doesn’t exist, a riddle, a puzzle, hope, fear, danger, salvation - all come together.

Zach Marjek has faced death in the far corners of the Earth and survived where others have failed. Now, he's thrust into an unimaginable situation where jaded mercenaries, an Inuit wanderer, a murderous Yupik, a young mother, a video game designer, a retired general, a new president, a Chinese marine, and mathematics prodigies must come together. Their lives and fates intertwine to revolve around a mystery with consequences that could range from disaster to salvation.

As the mystery unravels, a danger unbeknownst to the players lurks and prepares to take what cannot be taken. The future - and life - hang by the thinnest of threads.

I love long-form novels, especially ones like this that can so masterfully take us on an epic adventure. My biggest regret is that Olan Thorensen has only so many hours in a day when he can craft more of his engrossing stories. If you haven't read it already, I highly recommend his Destiny's Crucible series.

Don't worry about the negative reviews of this book - there are always naysayers who will whine if a story doesn't perfectly align with their politics. This author brings a lot of elements to his stories, and I especially appreciate his expertise in military and scientific topics.

I'm looking forward to the sequel.

And we're off on another great SciFi adventure!

I enjoyed the way this book flowed. I cannot wait for book 2. This one ends on a bit of a cliff hanger.

First off fantastic narration - Johnathan Davis is to Olan Thorensen as RC Bray is to Craig Alanson. At this point, I don't think I could listen to these stories with a different performer.

The story is set in a contemporary time frame with some inevitable political reference points. It would seem to be in the same universe as Destinys Crucible happening, from a new perspective. In the case of DC, we don't know much about the observers other than the introduction in book 1. In this book, we learn about the observers, their roles motivations are shared without overreach.

Overall the story stands alone well and focuses on the character development and situational behavior in extraordinary circumstances.
