Charlotte of Capthian has only known hardship. It's not easy being the only daughter of a widowed healer, but when her mother's chronic illness takes a turn for the worse, her mother tells her there's a tree root five days' journey south. Eager to cure her mother, Charlotte's willing to make the journey alone, but then the five sons of Bartow the trapper insist Charlotte let them escort her while checking their traps. It's the ideal solution, only there's one problem: she likes all five of the brothers. How will she keep her feelings to herself?

Soon they happen upon an abandoned temple in the mountains where a goddess appears and tells Charlotte that she's the Heiress of Darkness. She has a part to play in the rebirth of magic, and she has five days to get to the temple in Pereta...or she will die.

Oh, and there's one small catch. She must sleep with all five brothers to bring her five elements of magic to life...or she dies.

Contains mature themes.

Both books in the series so far are ok. There were things I really liked and disliked about both. I wasn’t a big fan of either main female character but didn’t really dislike them either. This books ending was really rushed. There wasn’t a cliffhanger but it didn’t really end either.

Not the final book....I think 🤔

This “duology” (please tell me there is more???!!?) is really good. Well worth the credit or if you have the Romance package definitely worth the price of it. Though it did leave me wanting more hence the comment above in parentheses :P

Pretty amazing

I loved this one over the first book. Much more believable heroine, however I do like the guards from the first book better. But great book overall. can't wait to see what happens in the next book.

amazing!!!

I don't like to crap on new authors. But I always want to feel like am giving an honest review. This book, Heiress of Darkess, is a duology with the first book Hierres of Light. The problem is that it's the exact same book. Almost identical. Switch out the names of the characters and the story is EXACTLY THE SAME.

Here are some examples of the similarities:

• Girl grows up with 5 male companions.
• All five companions secretly love the girl.
• Book one the 5 guys are in a Brotherhood guard, and in this book they are actual brothers.
• Each girl asks one of the guys to kill her if things go bad.
• Each girl encounters a Goddess trying to trick her.
• Each group of guys say, "We are brothers. We share everything and we are ok with sharing you"
• Each girl constantly berates herself for wanting multiple men.

I could go on and on and on... as I said it is the EXACTLY same book with different names.

Another thing that makes this book bad is the development. Meaning the lack of any development. There is no character development, no world development, no story development.

These five brothers are forced down your throat. The author gives a paragraph of them being around once to save Charlotte when they were 6 but no other background on why they are important to each other. So the "love" comes across as spontaneous. I would have recommended started the story with her and the five brothers instead of the merchants son who adds no other value to this book after the first 5 minutes. If she had started with tge 5 brothers talking to Charlotte then their friendship would have been established automatically.

Instead it came across as the author saying , "OH yeah. I forgot to mention these five dudes she grew up with so just pretend like you knew that already and I won't worry about explaining"

The book was only 6 hours long. On average audio books are about 8 - 12 hours, so she maybe this was the fault of the editor cutting too much out. Only the last 12 minutes involve her interacting with her sister. And that was supposed to be the whole purpose of thus second book. Either way, I have to give my honest opinion and this felt like a waste of my money.

Deja Vu... again
