A lushly illustrated set of dark, captivating fairy tales from the bestselling author of The Gospel of Loki with the illustrator of Stardust, Charles Vess.

The beauty of stories; you never know where they will take you. Full of dreams and nightmares, Honeycomb is an entrancing mosaic novel of original fairy tales from bestselling author Joanne M. Harris and legendary artist Charles Vess in a collaboration that’s been years in the making. The toymaker who wants to create the perfect wife; the princess whose heart is won by words, not actions; the tiny dog whose confidence far outweighs his size; and the sinister Lacewing King who rules over the Silken Folk. These are just a few of the weird and wonderful creatures who populate Joanne Harris’s first collection of fairy tales.

Dark, gripping, and brilliantly imaginative, these magical tales will soon have you in their thrall in a uniquely illustrative edition.

The tales are beautifully illustrated by the renowned illustrator of Stardust, Sandman, and The Book of Earthsea, Charles Vess.

Critic reviews

"Author Joanne Harris’s warm, well-modulated voice is perfectly suited to narrating her interconnected stories of fairy-world denizens and human folk. At the center is the drama of the impish and arrogant Lacewing King, whose adventures span generations, leaving a wake of consequences for all he meets. Whimsical instrumental music serves as transitions between the stories and adds to the warmth of the listening experience by balancing its darker moments."

Very mixed stories that eventually come together. Still, dark and disturbing in many places. Timeline really doesn’t make sense. Not much of a moral or point to most of the takes. The performance was excellent though. Still, would not recommend, especially for children or anxious adults.

Lovely Mosaic Novel

Gorgeous stories both harrowing and lovely. I will read this book again and again. BUT I will NOT listen to the audiobook again. Though the author does a fantastic job there is weird, loud music in between every chapter that is terribly annoying and jarring. It’s only about 4 seconds but it’s 4 seconds too long. Please remove the music and this would be a perfect 5 star audiobook.
