Tammy Everett's suspicious, overly-protective father, Harry, does everything he can to crush her relationship with the hard-living Todd Cartwright. Todd is not about to give up the greatest thing that's ever happened to him and goes to war with Harry. But a few days before the wedding, tragedy rocks both Todd and Harry's world, sending them crashing into a depth of heartache and anger that neither man knows how to handle.

When Todd decides to go on the honeymoon alone and drink and fornicate away his pain, he finds Harry at the airport with Tammy's ashes, heading down to the same island where Tammy is to be laid to rest. The two men must now travel together to a honeymoon resort, escorted by the person they each blame and hate.

Todd and Harry are forced to recognize that they have one thing in common: they loved the same woman. And that bond causes them both to begrudgingly help the other overcome the gaping loss that has swallowed them.

As I listened to the story while I was doing other things, thirty minutes in it had my complete attention. The way Bart told the story in such detail, I could see and feel it all. From an audible chuckle to mimicking expressions I felt they were having. The journey is one I will never forget! Must read. On to book two in the series. Vanessa Hollis 9/2022

From the first pages, the protagonist is graphene-thin, insufferable, and written as though the author watched a pickup artist once or twice and imagined what it must like to be him while sitting alone at the end of the bar. And, in that vain, without any literary buildup whatsoever, he immediately transforms this character into an insufferable 12 year old beta male worshiping a Mary Sue. There is no cleverness here, no turning of a phrase or subtlety and subtext or boldness. And, neither the man nor the woman earns the reader's respect or sense that this is real or special. None of it feels authentic and there is a ton of lazy exposition. When Fogelman turns this into a film, he will have to add the layers that aren't here and make more well rounded characters--especially the girl. I'm not sure I'll be able to get to the end of this book. the opening chapters don't set up characters i care about or believe. and the narrator doesn't sound at all how this character is written, so it makes the character even less believable. Lets hope his girl dies quickly so we can get to the dad and he can save this thing...and that his character was more fleshed out by a better author.

What an enjoyable, funny, sad, emotional and ultimately heartfelt roller coaster ride this book was. I didn’t really know what to expect and then I found that it was surprised and paid off that surprise and enjoyable and gratifying ways. I can’t help but wonder what happens next for Todd and Harry.

What a ride!
