A quirky lesbian romance about love never being quite where you expect.

Anna's life's in a bit of a rut. As a teacher with two great kids and a boyfriend, she seems to have it all. Except...she's bored as hell. Perhaps a new hobby's in order? Something...crafty?

Divorced mother and veteran Ollie has been through the wars, emotionally and physically. To relax, she runs a quirky crochet class in her London craft shop. She can't help but notice the attractive, feisty new student. A shame Anna's straight as an arrow.

But somewhere between the chain stitches, doubles, and trebles, Ollie and Anna form a powerful connection they never expected.

Contains mature themes.

Wonderful characters and narration. Two women who have been dealt a blow meet in a yarn shop. Ollie is a veteran after a terrible injury in Afghanistan. Now estranged from her family she runs a craft business. Annie is a teacher with great kids but I bored. Ollie runs a crochet class and enjoys the new student. A great book for older women.

A Terrific Story

The narration was wonderful as was the story to create a perfectly paced romance. I appreciated that the two characters were older women both experiencing new love. Highly recommend!

EDIT 2/17/26: I reread this to fill a prompt because I remembered loving it. It was even better than I remembered so I bumped this up from 4.5 Stars to 5 Stars. The prologue was still a bit slow and meh but it didn’t bother me as much this time around. Also I’ve listened to more books narrated by Gabrielle Baker and she really is wonderful. It’s also weird to see an old review of mine that doesn’t follow the format I’ve perfected for me.

There is no Third act Breakup and this story is low angst.

I read this for the I Heart Sapphic Reading Challenge for the location England.

LOVED. LOVED. LOVED THIS BOOK! Sweet and enjoyable, it had me audibly saying awww a few times (while on a plane, that was embarrassing.) Quick thoughts:

1. The Prologue is eh. Takes place in Iraq and feels a bit colonial and cliched but it is short and that doesn’t really come up again
2. A f/f romance with crocheting as the theme? CATNIP
3. The two female protagonists are in their early 50s! Yessssssssss
4. Since both women are older, they have families, careers, and lives that are just as important to them as their new relationship and they know and expect that of each other AND THAT IS SO NICE TO READ
5. It is a sweet slow burn that also explores their relationship beyond the whole first kiss
6. The crochet group involved is diverse which is wonderful since so many crafty themed books feature only heterosexual female groups. That gets tiring.

The narrator is pretty good and does a decent job at giving the two women enough of a different voice that it doesn’t get confusing in dialogue. There are some steamy bits that I would give it a medium/hot rating.

Note: this takes place in England and if you are or familiar with crocheting, the terms might confuse you. In England what they call Double Crochet we call in America Single Crochet. Confused the crap out of me until I remembered that.

You don’t have to be a crocheter to enjoy this and one of the ladies you follow is learning to crochet and that makes it easier to follow the crafting bits. I highly recommend this book!

This was a good book for older women like me, not many books are for mature and about mature women, so this was a pleasant surprise. loved the characters the story line.
Narration was great

Pleasantly British
