Heroin is a Beast, and that Beast has infiltrated every town and city in America. The Beast has come for your sons and daughters. The Beast is hunting for your fathers and mothers. And that Beast has only one mission, to bury as many Americans as possible.

I Am a Heroin Addict is the story of how Ritchie Farrell survived a ten-bag-a-day heroin habit to become a best-selling author, WGA screenwriter, and recipient of the prestigious du-Pont-Columbia Award for excellence in journalism.

Contains mature themes.

Narration was outstanding! The story was nail biting, sad, and triumphant. Farrell’s father abusive behavior towards his children and wife was so painful to read. I had to pace myself as I listened to his recounting of the abuse. His story is a cautionary tale of how child abuse, PTSD, and domestic violence can lead one down so many dangerous paths. Farrell’s honesty made it easy to feel compassion for him. Heroin is seductive and even when you’re a good person with everything going for you. It was encouraging to hear him share his ongoing journey to stay clean.

This is one of the best books I’ve read/heard. Highly recommend. Although I can not related to what this guy has been through. I gave me a pretty good insight to the life of an attic and their struggle to get out of that life

Was a great read.. didn't realize was just about being in detox for a week. Which was fine because I myself never used detox or rehab..so reading about the experience gave me great perspective on what it is like.
