I can’t sleep.

Not since June 16th, 2018.

Not since what happened....

Traumatised by the events of her past, exhausted by insomnia, Becky Braithwaite believes that a new start will help her to recover.

She leaves home to fulfil her brother’s dreams, and honour the life he never had…but she soon finds that escaping from the pat is not as easy as she imagined.

Is her fatigued mind playing tricks on her, or is danger really lurking in the shadows?

This unpausable psychological thriller will keep you listening to find out the truth.

Lack of sleep can really mess with the health of your mind and body. Becky is struggling to deal with a past “incident”, but she can’t help but feel there’s something more going on...

J.E. Rowney really did a fantastic job of hooking me with this story. The tidbits of information that were shared throughout the story all came together in the shocking ending. I have to admit, I didn’t see that ending coming!

Kate Parry’s narration was so well done. She did a great job of bringing out Becky’s paranoia and anxiousness.

I liked the book well enough but felt that it would have been better suited for a short story or perhaps a novella. The narrator did a wonderful job of conveying a sense of dread, stoking the fires of this slow burn.

At first, this read a little like Becky's diary, logging in the number of times she couldn't sleep. But as the story progressed, the pace picked up and there was just enough detail to reveal what actually happened with the "incident."

Becky's battle with guilt is heart-wrenching, and even though her roommates are kind and willing to offer friendship, she still isn't able to open up fully. The cyclone of medication, psychiatrist visits, and the inner turmoil of facing her past pulls for the reader's empathy every step of the way.

I love how subtle the clues are dropped in. They're seemingly insignificant until Ms Rowney unveils their importance. Without giving it away, I believe the end was the perfect resolution to this story. Slightly ambiguous, tugging at the heartstrings, and beautifully told.

As some of the reviewers have said, this book will leave you thinking.......Sleep deprivation. Not good for body or mind. Becky is trying to function normally at university without sleep. It's not working out so well.
I felt the book drug on at times. And was just too depressing for me to enjoy. The story was interesting with good characters. The narrator did a nice job of relating the characters and their attitudes. There just wasn't anything exciting going on.

Too depressing.

the synopsis of the book promises "unputdownable psychological" and a thriller that "will keep you turning the pages to find out the truth.". I can agree that I did not see this results coming, but I found the book itself a little slow and I struggled with it.
"the gripping psychological thriller that will keep you awake at night."? I doubt it...
I did like the narrator, and I think she did a good job.
