A Creepy Read

I Found a Lost Hallway in a Dying Mall by Ben Farthing is an exceptional entry in the I Found series, and stands out as my favorite installment so far. From the very beginning, the book immerses readers in a hauntingly atmospheric setting that sets the stage for a genuinely spooky experience. The combination of a dilapidated mall and the eerie presence of autonomous mannequins creates a chilling backdrop that keeps the tension high throughout.

Listening to the audiobook on Audible was a fantastic experience, thanks to the skillful narration that brought the main character's fear and desperation vividly to life. The narrator’s performance added an extra layer of depth to the story, making the unsettling moments even more impactful. Farthing’s writing, combined with this engaging narration, made for a truly engrossing read.

What I loved most about this book was the way it built a sense of dread and unease with every turn of the page. Farthing masterfully crafts an environment where the mundane becomes menacing, and the interplay between the eerie mall setting, the malevolent mannequins, and the revelation of what truly lies at the heart of the mall kept me on edge. The story’s progression is both suspenseful and intriguing and leaves a lasting impression.

Something that draws us back.

There is something that draws us to look at liminal space photos and videos, but if it were real life, I believe it would be hard to relate to Lisa going back so many times in this story. Without spoiling. I suppose she has her reason(s). But I wish it was more organic - however that might limit a story like this to only one crossing-of-the-threshold. Lisa's voice actor is amazing. I believe that it's her. It can be no one else. That goes to show you that the writing here must be pretty genuine.

I Found a Lost Hallway in a Dying Mall by Ben Farthing is an eerie and unsettling read that taps into the creeping dread of liminal spaces. While I typically avoid content centered around this theme due to how unnerving I find it, Farthing masterfully weaves it into a suspenseful and deeply atmospheric horror story that had me hooked.
The story follows Lisa, who, while working in a dying mall, hears a desperate cry for help. What she discovers is far beyond anything she could have imagined, her senile coworker in an abandoned hallway, speaking to a grotesque, fused mass of mannequins. When her coworker suddenly vanishes, Lisa is thrust into a terrifying search that will change her life forever.
The novel expertly captures feelings of isolation, fear, and the uncanny, making it a deeply immersive read. The concept of being lost and abandoned is a universal fear, and Farthing plays on that with precision, creating a truly unsettling atmosphere. Additionally, the story gave me strong Doctor Who vibes, particularly elements reminiscent of the episodes Rose and Blink. Whether intentional or not, the combination of these eerie, reality-bending themes made for a unique and compelling horror experience.
This marks the fourth entry in Farthing’s I Found series, and it will remain one of my favorite indie horror collections. While I Found Puppets Living in my Apartment Walls still holds the top spot for me, I Found A Lost Hallway in a Dying Mall is a close second. If you’re a fan of unsettling horror that lingers long after you’ve finished reading, this is a book—and a series—you won't want to miss.

kind of boring, but I finished it anyway out of curiosity. maybe a different narrator.

Creepy setting

As someone who is terrified of aging I could completely relate to the main character!! And how fun is the setting of an old mall??? The narrator was also absolutely perfect
