Hannah and Charlie have finally achieved their dream family with their two-year-old daughter, Isabelle, after years of heartbreak. However, their happiness is threatened when a global popstar is found murdered in their sleepy Gloucestershire village, and Hannah's past comes back to haunt her. She is forced to make a dangerous choice - risk everything, even her own life, to protect her secrets.
Meanwhile, Charlie must navigate his own secrets, which could destroy everything they've worked for. As the couple fights to keep their family together, they find themselves embroiled in a deadly game of lies and deceit, where the stakes are higher than ever before.
Will they be able to outrun the darkness of their past or will it consume them all?

The author is great at building a beautiful world in New York and a small town in UK. You can almost feel transported along her narratives of the background and emotional turmoils of the characters.
That being said, the characters are all so unlikeable, they lie and whine and worry. It was an never ending cycle of self pity and consistent worry.. Just tedious.
While the storyline has some twist and mystery, it was overshadowed by dumb decisions, cycles of lies and a main character that won't stop whining and feeling insecure about everything.
I personally find it hard to relate to such weak characters hence making the story rather unenjoyable (except for the epilogue).
Amazing narrator, tedious storyline

After a few disappointing starts, I chose this book and it was perfect timing. Author Sophie Flynn is new to me. “If They Knew” was an unusual and intricate mystery, spanning 16 years. Well-paced and precise narration by the incomparable Tamsin Kennard is no surprise and she is the main reason I bough this book. Over seven years, I’ve accumulated quite a large collection of her audiobooks. She presents every character flawlessly. I search by narrator in Audible and have found some hidden gems. Both Flynn and Kennard are a welcome and talented duo. I prefer and do so love my British thrillers and “If They Knew” is yet another reason why. This is an impressive and gripping offering. Twists and turns throughout, jaw-dropping moments, with an ending I never saw coming. Well worth a treasured credit, however, I was happy to pay $11. Highly recommended. Screaming from the rooftop again, “Epic, I say! EPIC! EPIC! EPIC!” May we have more please?
