This book welcomes listeners to appreciate the origins of Christianity within the Roman world in which early Christianity got its first foothold. It does that by immersing listeners in the life and culture of two thriving first-century towns—Pompeii and Herculaneum. Those towns (destroyed in the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 CE) act as showpieces of the world into which the early Christian movement was spreading. Bruce Longenecker, a leading scholar of the ancient world of the New Testament, discusses first-century artifacts in relation to the life stories of people from the Roman world and interweaves texts of the New Testament into that context.

There are many excellent women voiceover artists. But this VO artist just gets it completely wrong. She sounds like she is reading a cheesy romance novel. Such would be fine in a romance novel. My wife and I both loved Longenecker’s fictional Lost Letters. And the info in this book is fantastic. But it’s nearly unbearable to listen to. Why do so many biblical scholars and theologians choose such poor VO artists? Knocks the book down.

Fascinating Story. Voiceover is Unbearable.
