A story about the price of fame, the truth sacrificed on its altar, and the love that brings a prodigal daughter home.

As the Great Depression hits the Midwest, Minerva Sinclaire runs away to Hollywood, determined to make it big and save the family farm. But beauty and moxie don’t pay the bills in Tinseltown, and she’s caught in a downward spiral of poverty, desperation, and compromise. Finally, she’s about to sign with a major studio and make up for it all. Instead, she wakes up next to a dead film star and is on the run for a murder she didn’t commit.

Only two unwilling men - Oscar, a Mexican gardener in danger of deportation, and Max, a too-handsome agent battling his own demons - can help Mina escape corrupt police on the take and the studio big shots trying to frame her. But even her quick thinking and grit can't protect her from herself. Alone, penniless, and carrying a shameful secret, Mina faces the consequences of the heartbreaking choices that brought her to ruin...and just might bring her back to where she belongs.

A little melodramatic but overall enjoyed the story…not so much the narrator. Almost stopped listening in the beginning. Really had a difficult time listening to her voice but kept on because I had gotten into the story. Better had I read the book.

Good story comparable to The Prodigal Son

Such a great story of forgiveness and redemption. Shows the love of a father and his child and mirrors that of our Heavenly Father

Beautiful Retelling of the Prodigal Son

I really enjoyed the story and especially liked being drawn into the era. Lots of references to big names of the past that I found interesting as well as the insight into the daily trials of that particular time. I enjoyed hearing the vernacular of my grandparents and have a renewed respect for what they dealt with. Not especially keen on the melodrama, such as the lead character "letting go" of their love because "they'll be "better off without me". I don't believe that ever happens in real life but especially in those times when survival was the number one priority. But it ends well and really touched me. I really liked the sound of the narrator and felt she did a good job on the different voices but almost stopped listening immediately because she uses a sing-song tone reminiscent of live stage acting when there's a long monologue. Very off-putting but I started the book on a long business trip so listened to the end despite it. If the narrator changed to a more even tone, I'd give 5 of 5 stars on all accounts.

Good story and with nicely tied up ending
