A “brisk, crafty, and fascinating psychological thriller” (The Washington Post) from New York Times bestselling author Lisa Unger, this darkly suspenseful novel follows a compulsive liar whose carefully constructed life begins to unravel when her closest friend disappears.

Lana Granger lives a life of lies. She has told so many that the truth is like a hazy nightmare she can’t quite recall. About to graduate from college and with her trust fund almost tapped out, she takes a job babysitting a troubled boy named Luke. Expelled from schools all over the country, the manipulative young Luke is accustomed to controlling the people in his life. But, in Lana, he may have met his match. Or has Lana met hers?

When Lana’s closest friend, Beck, mysteriously disappears, she resumes her lying ways—to friends, to the police, to herself. After all, she will do anything to hide the truth about her whereabouts the night Beck disappeared but it might not be enough to keep her ominous secrets buried: someone else knows about Lana’s lies. And he’s dying to tell.

A gripping psychological suspense written with no-holds-barred raw power, In the Blood is “an absolute corker of a thriller that cements Lisa Unger’s status as one of the brightest stars in the game” (Dennis Lehane, #1 New York Times bestselling author).

I like the story. This isn’t my first listen to Lisa Unger and will be back for more. My less than perfect rating was based on the narrator.
Though I like the quality of her voice, her cadence, and her inflections, what annoys me and is difficult for me to overlook is her practice of taking contracted words like: couldn’t, didn’t, wouldn’t etc., the phrasing them like two completely different word, ie: could ent, did ant, would ent, etc. Contracting two words into one the changing them back into two again is bothersome to me…maybe it’s a personal problem.

Will be back for more.

This actually happened. I listened to the final words an audibly said “just wow.” It was that good.

I just never really could get into this one- there were some good part toward the end but the main character was a bit blah for me so I just never came to care

This was a great listen! I really enjoyed it. I did figure out the twist a bit earlier than I would have liked, but the story was fun and the twist was really different. Would recommend!

Loved this one!
