A woman’s brunch with friends quickly turns dark in this gripping thriller from New York Times bestselling author Lisa Unger

Ana Blacksmith has gathered her closest friends and sister Vera for a brunch to celebrate her recent breakup from her boyfriend Paul. But when shocking news about Paul arrives, all eyes are on Ana, the angry ex with a bad reputation. Suspicions only intensify when Ana’s best friend falls deathly ill after the brunch.

But Ana is not the only one who had a score to settle with Paul. As the investigation unfolds, rumors of a secret network that uses ancient methods to obtain justice begin to emerge. Vengeance is sweet, but it can also be deadly. Ana and Vera are determined to find the truth before Ana takes the fall and their own long-buried history comes to light.

This was amazing. Narration and story were outstanding and reminded me of the Hollows. Please please make this a series. Lisa is an excellent author and storyteller.

If you think your last breakup was messy, Ana Blacksmith is here to say, "Hold my mimosa."
In Lisa Unger’s latest, Served Him Right, we open on a celebratory breakup brunch that goes south faster than a cheap tequila shot. Ana’s ex, Paul, is the subject of some "unfortunate" news, and suddenly Ana—with her "difficult" reputation—is Public Enemy No. 1. Toss in a best friend falling deathly ill and a shadowy network of women using ancient methods to balance the scales of justice, and you’ve got a psychological thriller that’s as sharp as a ritual dagger.
Why You Need This on Your Nightstand:
The "Witch" Evolution: This isn't about pointy hats; it’s about the modern-day stake-burning. Unger brilliantly parallels how women were treated in the past with the gaslighting and legal red tape of 2026.
The Coven Energy: The sisterhood in this book is the true definition of a coven. It’s a protective shield against dangerous men and a world that constantly tries to shrink women.
Fierce Motherhood: I loved the focus on raising daughters who are "take-no-prisoners" strong in both mind and body.
The Moral Gray Area: This book looks you in the eye and asks: What is truly right or wrong? Does a certain kind of monster justify a certain kind of murder? It’s a delicious dilemma that kept me flipping pages.
The Verdict:
The character development is complex, the pacing is tight, and the themes are incredibly timely. It’s a beautiful, gritty reminder that while vengeance is sweet, the bond between women is the real power.
Bottom line: If you’re tired of being told to "calm down" or "let it go," this book is your new best friend. Read it, then call your girls. Just maybe... watch what you put in the brunch cocktails. 🤫

I loved the way she wrote this with different POV's. The story kept me listening to find out what happened next. I loved her characters and could see them clearly in my mind. You will have to listen to find out what happened! Happy listening!💜📚

The different narrators helped but the story seemed too long and hard to follow.

Hard to follow

It's like the boring version of the white oleander book/ movie. There are so many unnecessary characters little character development and the book is just all over the place. Basically I was bored and wanted it to end.

BORING..... VERY VERY BORING
