The Inside Story of America's Ultimate Warriors

When Osama bin Laden was assassinated, the entire world was fascinated by the men who had completed the seemingly impossible mission that had dogged the U.S. government for over a decade. SEAL Team 6 became synonymous with heroism, duty, and justice. Only a handful of the elite men who make up the SEALs, the US Navy's best and bravest, survive the legendary and grueling selection process that leads to becoming a member of Team 6, a group so classified it technically does not even exist. There are no better warriors on Earth.

Don Mann knows what it takes to be a brother in this ultra-selective fraternity. As a member of Seal Team Six for over eight years and a SEAL for over seventeen years, he worked in countless covert operations, operating from land, sea, and air, and facing shootings, decapitations, and stabbings. He was captured by the enemy and lived to tell the tale, and he participated in highly classified missions all over the globe, including Somalia, Panama, El Salvador, Colombia, Afghanistan, and Iraq. As a coordinator for several civilian SEAL training programs, and as a former Training Officer of SEAL Team Six, he was directly responsible for shaping the bodies and minds of SEALs who carried out the assassination of Osama bin Laden.

But to become a SEAL, Mann had to overcome his own troubled childhood and push his body to its breaking point -- and beyond. Inside Seal Team 6 is a high octane narrative of physical and mental toughness, giving unprecedented insight to the inner workings of the training and secret missions of the world's most respected and feared combat unit.

There are annoying beeps to replace redacted content. Sometimes they are bunched together and extremely irritating, and somewhat takes away from the story. I would still recommend it, as the narrator does a great job, and the stories are awesome, aside from the tones mentioned above.

A great story overall, but. . .

The "tone" used to hide classified information was so disruptive I almost quit listening at the very beginning. It was difficult to comprehend some sentences because so much was deleted. Fortunately, there we less of that in the middle of the book, and just returned a bit at the end. Maybe there could have been another way to "edit" the book so as not to have eliminated so much context.

Annoying bleeps

The story was good when it was not being bleeped out (though I understand the reason for it) and when Don gave us insight on his missions as a SEAL. I found myself drifting when he talked about his life as a marathon runner, bicyclist and all the other physical forms of torture he enjoyed so much outside of the SEAL teams. I found myself rooting for the wives and then getting angry for them. Normally I blast through a book, this one took me a bit longer because there were parts that simply did not hold my interest. All in all I thought it was an interesting account of life as a Navy SEAL Medic, but maybe if it was heavier on his missions and less on the grueling things he put himself through outside of the missions, it might have held more of my interest. However I think the book was well written and it flowed easily considering the redactions. This book probably won't be my go to book when I am looking to read/listen to a book a second time, but I am glad I took the time to hear it through. There is no doubt that Don is a true Patriot with adrenaline to spare.

Very insightful

I can’t understand why any of this book is redacted. Most things are 20 plus years old. It’s really distracting at times.

Good book overall
