Lucia can't ignore it any longer. Growing up as an orphan, Lucia must deal with her future. After learning she's hit puberty, she's determined to prove herself and win as much freedom for herself as possible.

She decides to compete in a tournament to become a knight, an achievement that no beastkin has ever attained before. But Lucia struggles to adjust to her growing beastkin instincts as she fights for recognition and respect. Her primal urges threaten to consume her, jeopardizing her chances of winning the tournament.

But a dangerous cult of demon worshipers is plotting something for the tournament. The king's advisor plans to counter their plot. But when plans collide, chaos ensues, and Lucia is left fighting for her life and for those around her.

Full of rage and determination, Lucia must rise to the challenge and defend her friends against evil demons, dangerous dire beasts, and conniving cultists, all while fighting for her place in a society that doesn't understand her and controlling the animal inside her.

There are many good qualities with this book. The story is novel and it's interesting to follow along. The pace is good and the detaile level and world building fits well. The narrator does a good job, though some characters sound a bit too much like Nora. As an older reader I found some flaws I would have noticed less as a teen, like Nora throwing out the elite og being absent at key moments, also the lackluster gift from the king, they seemed unrealistic for the described situations, but very typical for the storytype. I would have loves this as a teenager.

Great for young adults
