Data is fundamental to the modern world. From economic development, to healthcare, to education and public policy, we rely on numbers to allocate resources and make crucial decisions. But because so much data fails to take into account gender, because it treats men as the default and women as atypical, bias and discrimination are baked into our systems. And women pay tremendous costs for this bias in time, money, and often with their lives.

Celebrated feminist advocate Caroline Criado Perez investigates the shocking root cause of gender inequality and research in Invisible Women, diving into women's lives at home, the workplace, the public square, the doctor's office, and more. Built on hundreds of studies in the US, the UK, and around the world, and written with energy, wit, and sparkling intelligence, this is a groundbreaking, unforgettable expose that will change the way you look at the world.

The scant sex disaggregated data available is analyzed and it does not paint a rosy picture for women. Men are the default, with women's needs an afterthought in every system in place today. This book digs into the data gap in detail and the reality is fascinating; and frightening if you are a woman, or care about women.

There are rays of hope, though. This book is a call to action. It first provides a stark reminder that the female data gap adversely affect us all. It then points out role models that are working to close the data gap and raise all of humanity up in the process.

fascinating, frightening, and hopeful

Loved the book Invisible Woman and the audible experience. since it was my first time and I usually like to hold the paper cover book in my hand and feel the pages, this was an incredible experience. I really loved it and glad I was able to finish my book so quickly even though I was busy with work and other chores. The true facts through data analytics showing gender disparity made me realize what a blunder! But the fact is that it's true. When I think of Google assistant or Alexa they all have female voice and that's for a the same reason that woman are usually considered in that position for taking care of things such as play this music for me or tell me where's my stuff. Good read with insights.

Just like the book Think Fast and Slow showed how humans thinks, the book Invisible Women shows how humanity (men mostly) think, and the world that has been created by this thinking that does not account for the other half of humanity (women). The results is a world full of disadvantages for women and missed opportunities for development and economic growth. The book is an eye opener that will change how we approach everything - from ergonomic designs, medicine, to public policy.

It will change how you approach everything! For the better.

This book brought to my attention the unfairness of our culture. Sadly I've grown accustomed to it and have accepted the my scenario. Caroline shares and abundance of data that showcases how the design of our everyday life is catered towards men. I feel unfinished and frustrated. What's next? How do we as women and men who support gender equality move forward??? Great book that left me frustrated.

Overwhelmed with data

If you ever thought that not counting gender into data was was ok, boy does this book lay out a lot of research into why that's not true. As the software engineers say: garbage in garbage out. This book is great albeit sad, learning how even things that surround us daily (like seatbelts) were designed without considering women.

Read very well by the author as well.

Incredible research on the gender data gap
